Minister's Reflections

Rev. David Messner

Being immersed in church life has given me a chance to rediscover and re-imagine the value of summer.  Noticing this change in season and tempo, I believe, gives us a natural pause to appreciate the progress and shifts ongoing in our own journeys.  I think it's important to set summer apart, to make a regular practice of liberation and renewal in this window.  I hope we can each find a personal way to return to the wonderfully childish possibility of summer as time for reclaiming the light of small freedoms that may have dimmed a bit during the year.  Read more.

Congregational Radio Survey

Our church is investigating the possibility of applying for a community radio license.  The UUCS Global Soul radio team has compiled a survey because they would like to know what you think about this idea and what type of programming you, as a UU, might like to hear broadcast on this new non-commercial radio station if we move forward with the application. Paper copies will be available in Rahn Hall after Sunday services for those who do not have internet access, but for those who do, please follow this link to take the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/V2TZ2YH. The deadline for responding is June 14th!

Annual Congregational Meeting

June 2 at 12:15 pm

Want to know how your pledge dollars are going to be used?  This is your chance to vote on it.  Join us after church for election of the Board and approval of next year's budget.

All are welcome and everyone who has been a member at least 30 days is eligible to vote.  It's an important way to participate in our Church's democratic process.

Freedom is Coming

(Singing the Journey Hymn #1035)

Freedom is our UUCS theme for summer 2013.  As you read this article, I will be preparing for two months of summer (mid-June to mid-August), during which I will experience literal freedom from my duties as music director at UUCS.  For this freedom I am truly grateful. It allows me time to reconnect with my family and to "percolate," as Rev. Dave says, with anticipation on the exciting music and worship experiences to come in the church year 2013-2014.  Read more!

picnic
Annual Picnic at Oatland Island

The Annual Picnic will take place June 15, 2013 at the Oatland Island Wilderness Center from 12:00-2:00 (set up crew, please report at 11:00 am).

The Oatland Island Facility is part of the Board of Education. Enjoy not only a good picnic area, but play area, nature trails and wild animals!  There's also a barnyard with domestic animals, and bird watching. Come eat and enjoy nature at its finest.

Each family is asked to bring one covered dish: a main dish, vegetable, salad, or dessert. Detailed information will be available soon!

Summer Peace Camp!

We are so very excited to be planning a full week of fun and meaningful programming for our children this summer. Peace Camp will take place July 22 - 26 and be open to children ages 5 to 12. Children will have fun learning how to cultivate peace within themselves and with others. Activities will include indoor and outdoor games, crafts, singing, yoga, meditation, conflict resolution role-playing, and more! Online registration is available. Or contact Jolene Byrne for more details.

Summer Newsletters

We will be sending out one newsletter each month from June 2 through August 4. Each month will feature one of our regular columns, and we will continue to keep you up to date on what's happening. If you have information about an upcoming church event, remember to contact the church office by the Tuesday before the first Sunday of each month so that we can get the word out. Also, if you have a reflection on an event that you took part in this past year, let us know. Pictures are always welcome!   -- Anne Butler
