January Flu Clinics at Emerald Physicians

It's not too late to get your Flu vaccine at Emerald Physicians.  According to the Center of Disease Control, the peak month of flu activity is the month of February.  Flu shots are available at an office visit or at one of our convenient flu clinics.

Emerald Physicians Welcomes...

Dr. Anna Hallemeier

We are pleased to announce that Anna Hallemeier, MD will be joining Emerald Physicians February 1st.

 

Dr. Hallemeier graduated from Harvard College with a degree in Anthropology in 1996.  She attended medical school at Yale School of Medicine, in New Haven, CT, and completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Yale-New Haven Hospital.  Prior to joining Emerald Physicians, she has been practicing primary care medicine on Cape Cod since 2007.  Her medical interests include young adult medicine, nutrition and lifestyle management, chronic disease management, and the intersection of the global environment with individual health.  Outside of medicine, Dr. Hallemeier enjoys yoga, hiking, travel, and caring for her children.

 

Dr. Hallemeier will be seeing patients at our new Cotuit office located at 3880 Falmouth Road, next to Stop & Shop.

 Morning Glory Muffins

 

  This delicious recipe comes from Joanne Irwin, who often partners with Emerald Physicians on educational community seminars.  Joanne is a Food for Life instructor for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and is also a certified plant-based culinary educator.  More recipes can be found on her website, www.plantbasednana.com.

 


 

Makes 12 muffins

 

1 3/4 c whole wheat pastry flour

1/4 c unbleached white flour

2 tsp baking soda

2 tsp cinnamon

1 pinch nutmeg or cardamom

1/2 tsp salt

Ener-G egg replacer for 3 eggs

( or 1 T ground flax meal mixed w/ 3 T warm water as a replacement for each egg)

1/2 c soy milk

1/2 c unsweetened applesauce

2/3 c brown sugar

2T non-dairy margarine, melted

1T lemon or orange juice

1T orange rind, zested

1/4 c raisins

8oz crushed pineapple, well drained

1 c grated carrots (2 carrots)

1/4 c chopped walnuts or pecans

2T ground flaxmeal

1/4 c sunflower seeds (optional)
