Evans. Not  a history of the early church, this book  focuses on the first forty years from Jesus' crucifixion to the destruction of the temple, the meaning of Old testament prophesy concerning the temple's destruction  and "messianic prophecies."

 

The Unbearable Wholeness of Being: God, Evolution, and the Power of Love by Ilia Delio. Sister Delio combines deep scientific studies with a profound grasp of spirituality and our understanding of evolution and cosmology and our place in it all. She makes a case for love as the source and goal of the evolutionary process.

Interim Campus Pastor for Marshall UniversityMUjob

The Westminster Foundation of West Virginia, a not-for-profit organization that provides Presbyterian campus ministry at WV state colleges and universities, is looking for a full-time/part-time interim pastor. This interim pastor will provide pastoral leadership on the campus at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. This person should be an ordained or eligible to be ordained Teaching Elder in the PCUSA.  The Foundation seeks someone who can both provide pastoral care to the campus - students, faculty and staff - along with leading a discernment process, in collaboration with the Foundation's Campus Ministry Committee, as the Foundation looks forward to calling the installed, permanent pastor.

70th Anniversary for Elk Hills ElkHills

Elk Hills Presbyterian Church recently celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the charter of the church. On June 25, 1944, Elk Hills was established with the transfer of 29 members from First Presbyterian Church in Charleston. Over the years, counting interims, 14 ministers have carried God's word to the congregation.  On June 22, the congregation was blessed to have three previous ministers participate in leading worship; Tom Young (Zeta), Jim Robinson (Karen) and Mike Warren (Helen) as well as current pastor Cherrie Sizemore. Together, Tom, Jim, Mike and Cherrie represent 31 years of ministry at Elk Hills. 

Empowering Churches with Web Capabilities WEBSITE
Union Presbyterian Seminary is offering churches in WV Presbytery the opportunity to join the WWW (world wide web) with webpage(s), email, calendars and more. 

Ryan Abrahamsen, Webmaster for Union Presbyterian Seminary, will conduct a day long course on building and maintaining your church website using WordPress and setup and maintenance of email accounts.

The training class will be held at the WV Presbytery office on Saturday, July 26 - 9:00 AM to 4:30PM. Lunch is on your own.
Cost of the event: FREE (except lunch and travel). Reservations are required. Please call the presbytery office at 304-744-7634.

In addition to the work you are doing in your own church, those attending this course are asked to be sources of occasional support in the presbytery for other churches.

Last Chance! Session Records Review Session

There will be a final opportunity for churches to gather for Session Record Review on Sunday, July 13 at 3:00 PM at the Presbytery Office in South Charleston.  This event is for those churches that were unable to attend one of the earlier cluster reviews.  There will be no volunteer reviewers so churches need to send their records with the Clerk of Session, an elder or pastoral leader who is prepared to participate in the peer review.  For more information please contact Maureen Wright, Stated Clerk, at statedclerk@wvpresbytery.org or (304) 744-7634.

Part-Time Interim Pastor Wanted Pastor

Calvary Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville Ohio (12 miles west of Wheeling WV on I-70) is searching for an part-time interim pastor to work 20-25 hours per week.  The total approved package range is $36,000 to $45,000.

Prayer Concerns & Sympathy prayer

Tom Bulla, husband of Nancy Bulla - Commissioned Ruling Elder serving Union Presbyterian Church, passed away this week from complications due to Alzheimers. Tom once served on the Finance and Development committee for the Presbytery and was a member of Old Stone Presbyterian Church. 

 

Family and friends are welcome to join Nancy at her home (100 Arburckle Lane, Lewisburg, WV 24901) for food and fellowship to celebrate Tom's life on Saturday July 19th at 11:00AM. Notes and cards can be sent to the address above. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tom's family and friends.

Many folks in the Presbytery know Sally Hawley of St. Albans as the long time hammered dulcimer player with the Presby Pickers music group.  Sally died of a heart attack on June 26th at Thomas Hospital in South Charleston.  Her obituary is accessible at by clicking here.  A funeral service was held on Monday, June 30 at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sally's friends and family.
