We're having a wet winter!
Important storm preparation information below
Happy Holidays! As we enjoy the holiday week, we're getting a lot of rain. We need the rain, but these storms also bring potential problems like flooding.

In addition to wet skies, we're facing King Tides this week, adding to the already high SF Bay water levels from El Nino, furthering the risk of flooding.

Contra Costa County has taken steps to prepare for the heavy rains. We urge residents to also prepare.

Check the County's new Flood Preparedness Website which has  helpful details and links.

For Residents
  • Clean gutters, downspouts, storm drains, ditches
  • Stock up on sandbags, if needed, based on your property's drainage
  • Get emergency supplies in order

Residents in West County can get sandbags at the West County Detention Facility, south side of parking lot, 5555 Giant Highway, Richmond.

Sandbags are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Bring gloves, a shovel, and someone to help you load them in the car.
County preparations
  • Public Works staff are cleaning storm drains, ditches, and creek obstructions
  • The County operates 6 sandbag filling stations accessible 24/7 including the West County site listed above
  • Many local cities also supply sandbags; check yours

To report flooding or drainage issues contact County Public Works at 925-313-7000 or email at [email protected]

Check this Channel 2 KTVU news video for helpful information from a recent press conference on the County's flood preparation including on how to fill a sandbag,

As we cheer the rains, it's important we also take steps to protect ourselves and our property from storm damage.

Sincerely,
