Community Workshop in Richmond to Discuss Strategies to Reduce Poverty

As Co-Chair of Rise Together (a Bay Area effort to cut poverty in half by 2020), I want to invite you to a community workshop this Saturday to discuss regional strategies to reduce poverty.

This workshop is a collaborative effort of Rise Together, UC Berkeley's Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society, and the Insight Center.

The workshop will take place from 9:30 am to 1 pm this Saturday at the offices of Solar Richmond, 2730 Maine Ave., Richmond.

Rise Together is a regional effort involving dozens of organizations and leaders from throughout the Bay Area.

Rise Together has partnered with the Insight Center and the Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society to better understand the potential and the limits of various policy interventions, asses the needs of our most vulnerable populations, and analyze the segmentation of households and strategies.

Participants will discuss new research on reducing poverty and reflect on their own experience and perspectives on what we are doing now, what efforts need to be expanded and what needs to be done differently.

Among the key policy options that will be discussed for public input will include raising the minimum wage, expanding transitional job programs, investments in community college scholarships, and expanding affordable housing for young adults.

It's not too late for you to attend. Lunch will be provided. Registration is limited to 50 people.

Please RSVP online here. Fell free to invite others to RSVP.

I look forward to seeing you there!

John Gioia

Sincerely,
John
