Greetings!

SUNY Adirondack students Marissa Hughes and Paige Hammond (above) celebrate the season by checking out the ornaments on the Student Senate holiday tree in the Student Center.

Some of you know Dennis Harris, Class of 1996, now a senior engineer with Ball Aerospace in Colorado. Dennis is one of many alumni who credits their success to the college and giving back to SUNY Adirondack. Read his story here.

We invite you to make your own gift to the SUNY Adirondack Foundation's Annual Giving Campaign before December 31. Funds support student scholarships and provide professional opportunities for faculty and staff. Every gift makes a difference. Click here to make your donation.

If you have a head for figures and a little free time, the Tri-County United Way is looking for volunteers to provide free tax help for low-to-moderate income families as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Go here to read how you can help.

The accolades continue to accumulate for the SUNY Adirondack men's soccer team. Forward Samuel "JJ" Naiwo has been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association's Division III All-America First Team. He's the first SUNY Adirondack athlete to be named a First Team All-America, and he has received interest from several Division I schools. In addition, his coach Damien Jepson has been nominated for a national honor. Read about their achievements here.

Don't forget: The newsletter will not be published in January but will return in February 2014. Suggestions for future topics are welcome. If you would like to nominate an outstanding alumna or alumnus for us to profile, please contact Bob Myers at alumni@sunyacc.edu.

Ball Aerospace engineer's team monitors ozone levels for NASA

Alumnus Dennis Harris was, by his own words, "a state worker with no direction" when he enrolled at SUNY Adirondack as a returning adult student in the early 1990s. His interest in astronomy and science led to his current position as a senior engineer at Ball Aerospace, where he and his team developed a device to monitor ozone levels in the atmosphere.

Now Dennis is giving back to the college where he discovered his direction.

Join the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program

The Tri-County United Way VITA Coalition is looking for volunteers to assist low-to-moderate income families file their 2013 income tax returns. Last year, the program assisted nearly 1,600 families in Warren and Washington Counties. Training is available.

VITA sites are open during the day, evenings and Saturdays, so the Coalition can find a time that suits your busy schedule.

If you'd like to help, please contact Bob Myers at alumni@sunyacc.edu.

What's new in SUNY Adirondack Athletics

More kudos for the SUNY Adirondack men's soccer team.

Forward Samuel "JJ" Naiwo has been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association's Division III All-America First Team, the first SUNY Adirondack athlete to receive such an honor. Here's even better news for JJ: He is getting looks from a number of Division I collegiate soccer programs.

JJ is also a hit on Youtube - see his highlight reel here.

Lastly, men's soccer head coach Damien Jepson has been nominated for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) Coach of the Year Award. The NSCAA represents 200 men's collegiate soccer programs from across the country. The results of the voting will be announced soon.

Congratulations, JJ and Coach Jepson!
