VOA Rolls Out Mobile App With News in 45 Languages

Getting the latest news from VOA's many language services just got easier with the launch of new mobile and tablet apps that work on iPhones, iPads, and Android devices. The apps are free and provide the latest news and information in text, audio, and video. Users can also pick their favorite stories and download them for offline viewing to watch or listen later when wireless reception is poor. Read More

Board Unanimously Approves Kevin Klose as RFE/RL President And CEO

Broadcasting Board of Governors Chairman Jeffrey Shell has announced that distinguished journalist and broadcast executive Kevin Klose has accepted an offer, unanimously supported by the BBG, to serve as President and CEO of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. Klose had been serving as Acting President and CEO since January 2013.

RFA Leads World in Reporting on Deadly Ethnic Violence in China's Northwest
In the last week of August, Radio Free Asia's exclusive reports on ongoing ethnic unrest in China's northwest shaped international coverage on the tensions involving the minority Uyghurs. Since July 2009, when deadly riots erupted after a demonstration, Chinese authorities have kept much of the region under constant lock down, making it almost inaccessible for outside journalists to enter or report on the situation there. Avanza Cuba Returns to Air, Examines Cuba's Education System
Radio and TV Mart�s' popular series Avanza Cuba (Cuba Forward) returned August 21 with a special edition examining Cuba's educational system, its history, and its future. BBG Provides Critical Health Reporting Training in Tblisi, Georgia 
Thirty four journalists, journalism educators and communication officers participated in an August 16-18 seminar on crisis health reporting hosted by the Broadcasting Board of Governors at the Ilia State University in Tbilisi, Georgia. U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Norland greeted the participants, and in his opening remarks underscored the important role that media plays in building a peaceful and prosperous democratic state.
