Tammy Allison Reflects On Her Year as President

The United Way of Logan County works in collaboration with 22 agencies, numerous businesses, hundreds of volunteers and thousands of donors to improve lives in our community.  Together we have the power to make a bigger difference than we ever could individually.  It's about making a difference, not just once, but on a lasting basis.  A difference not just for today, but for tomorrow and the future well being of Logan County.

The effect of our actions and donations are amplified and invested where they will do the most good.    We hold ourselves and our partners accountable for achieving measurable, sustainable results in the areas identified as risk and need for the residents of Logan County.

Over the past year, we have Together achieved many accomplishments.

Through the leadership and commitment of Mike Mullins, our campaign chair, and numerous volunteers we exceeded our campaign goal by over $8,000, raising $663,401.  The first financial increase we have seen since 2008.  Dollars that will be used in our community to provide a warm coat for a child, supplies and medications for a neighbor fighting cancer or food and shelter for a family down on their luck.  This is only a few examples of how your support improves lives in Logan County.

Through the efforts of our quality staff and committed board members, we have reviewed meeting and operational structures, established a finance committee, tied the findings of the Logan County Health Risk and Community Needs Assessment to the allocation process and in mid-January, facilitated a Strategic Planning Session to assure that the United Way of Logan County is a strong and viable partner now and for years to come.

I know that under the leadership of Mike Mullins, our new board president, Tara Wagner, 2013 campaign chair, our quality board, dedicated staff and our many supporters,  Together we will continue to make a difference, a lasting, change and support that will happen right here in Logan County....the place we call home.

I thank you for your positive and most generous support.

Respectfully,

Tammy Allison, President

Mike Mullins 2012 Campaign Closing Comments
Mike Mullins

Now that we've closed the books on a very successful 2012 United Way of Logan County Campaign, it is only appropriate that we pause to thank you for investing in our exceptional community. Through corporate and employee giving to organizational and individual donations, you stepped up to help us exceed our goal in spite of a challenging economic climate.  In fact, you not only helped us exceed our 2012 goal, you also helped us bring about the reversal of a downward trend in donations that has lasted for several years.  We also want to thank the campaign and agency volunteers, all of whom are so essential to our mission accomplishment.

As we said many times throughout the campaign, in order for communities to survive and prosper, we have to take care of one another.  Acting alone you or I can't do a great deal to help our friends and neighbors, but through a "united" effort, we can do the impossible.  Through your generosity and our 22 partner agencies, we are doing just that.

As your campaign chair, I am so proud and humbled by your generosity, support. and enthusiasm which turned the challenge of this United Way campaign into a tremendous success  I suppose that it's fair to say that by living united, we really can build a better tomorrow right here in our own community.

Mike Mullins

2012 Campaign Chair

United Way of Logan County
Recognizes Its 2012 Supporters

With an increase over the 2012 goal of more than $8,000 in local contributions, updated policies and a goal to develop a strategic plan, the United Way of Logan County deemed its first year under new leadership a success.

The group came together Thursday for its annual meeting during which it recognized its campaign leaders, saw a change in leadership and voted in new policy changes to poise the charitable organization for future success.

"As I complete my first year as executive director, I want to pass on my sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone for all they've done," said Jim Donnelly, who was introduced at last year's annual meeting as successor to longtime United Way leader Ilene Heaton.

The annual campaign ended at $663,401, which was up $42,401 from $621,000 raised in 2011.

But the organization also managed to put out a bi-monthly electronic newsletter, relocate to a new office in the Main Street Marketplace and improve its Web site and social media presence.  Mr. Donnelly started the ball rolling on a new strategic plan, a road map that will guide us into the future.

"We have continued to build on a strong foundation for the people who will lead the United Way into the years to follow," he said.

The success of the campaign was more than the group had originally expected, Mike Mullins, campaign chairman and incoming board president, said.

"We ran this campaign with the idea that Logan County will become an extraordinary community and also that an extraordinary community takes care of all its residents and does so in a united way," he said.

"We started with a goal of an increase over 2011 by 5 percent. That was a pretty lofty goal, $655,000. We raised $663,401, which is more than a 6 percent increase. Our hope is this year is just the beginning of a long series of increases."

In her parting remarks, outgoing president Tammy Allison wished the group's new leaders success in the coming year.

"Under the leadership of Mike Mullins, our new president, and Tara Wagner, the new campaign chair and our staff, together we will continue to make a difference in Logan County," she said.
