Drama builds as Signing Day approaches
National Signing Day is four weeks away and it will be a busy end of the road for another star-studded class of recruits in Georgia. The state's top-ranked prospect is Trent Thompson from Westover. The 6-foot-4, 292-pound defensive end wreaked havoc against the nation's top prospects this weekend in the Army All-American game and remains committed to UGA.
Outside linebacker Roquan Smith is the highest rated prospect that is currently uncommitted but UGA has been in hot pursuit of the 6-foot-2, four-star linebacker from Macon County.

Smith went on his official visit to Athens in mid-December. Smith is considered the No. 6 outside linebacker in the nation according to 247sports.
Defensive lineman D'Andre Walker is one of the most recent four-stars to make his commitment and the Creekside standout pledged during the fourth court of the Army All-American game to UGA. Walker's commitment gives the Bulldogs eight of the top 17 prospects in the state (according to 247sports rankings) in this year's class and puts the Bulldogs as the No. 3 recruiting class in the nation.
Milton's Quart'e Sapp is eyeing a decision soon and will take an official visit to Tennessee on Jan. 16. Sapp is a four-star outside linebacker and a top 30 prospect in the state.
Georgia Tech is putting together a solid class with Alexander running back Mikell Lands-Davis and AJC All-Classification Player of the Year and Washington County star A.J. Gray. Marietta running back and track standout KirVonte Benson was also picked up by the Yellow Jackets at the end of November. Georgia Tech sits on the fringe of bringing in a top 30 class in the nation this year with plenty of time to scoop up the last minute acquisitions the Yellow Jackets have been able to land under Paul Johnson.
