Henry Co. off to strong start in holiday tourney

 

The Henry County High Schools girls defeated Washington on their home court 73-58 Friday night in the Chuck Miller Classic. Freshman Brooke Moore led the Ladyhawks with 20 points along with

junior teammate Arielle Joyner, who put in 13 points. Seniors Peyton Brown and Darryl Bowie led the Warhawks with 15 and 13 points, respectively, to cruise by Washington 88-70. Leading scorers for the Bulldogs were senior Antwarn Sanders with 14 points and sophomore Mynome Bell with 12 points.

Jim Knight Classic: The host North Cobb Christian boys and girls teams defeated Faith Christian out of Orlando, 77-65 and 55-35, respectively. The boys were led by Trey Kalina with 21 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and three assists and Jalen Dampier with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists. The Lady Eagles were led by Moriah Hidden with 21 points and seven rebounds, Gabby Mills with 14 points and Lisa Barfield with eight points and six rebounds.

War Eagle Classic: The Westminster girls defeated Starr's Mill 58-42 at Woodward Academy. Leading scorer was Wildcat junior Hannah Morgan with 16 points. The Holy Innocents' girls won a close game 49-44 against Sparkman of Alabama. The Lady Golden Bears were led to victory by Kennedy Suttle with 11 points and both Khayla Pointer and Erika Cassell had 10 points. The Archer boys defeated Holy Innocents' in overtime 67-66. Junior Darrion Taylor led the Tigers to victory with 26 points. The Sparkman boys dominated Dutchtown 66-35. Woodland-Stockbridge won a close game against Mt. Zion-Jonesboro 75-69 with the help of senior Daniel Durrett, who racked up 16 points. Woodward Academy defeated Sacred Heart Catholic of Alabama, 86-74. Leading scorers for the War Eagles were Marcus Hall and Jacob Roberston with 20 and 13 points, respectively.

St. Pius, Hillgrove, Pope and Blessed Trinty all win at SEBA


 

The St. Pius boys defeated Kell High School 61-31 with junior Kerney Lane as the leading scorer with 16 points at the SEBA Atlanta Hoops Festival at Pope High School. Hillgrove topped Berkmar 60-54. Antonio Wade was the leading scorer for the Hawks with 14 points. Pope dominated South Gwinnett 84-57 with the help of Chase Hutchins and Garrick DeBowles with 33 and 29 points, respectively. The Blessed Trinity boys whipped the Sprayberry Jackets 64-50 to bring home the SEBA Trophy.

Carrollton Classic (at Carrolton High School): The Mill Creek girls defeated Harrison 61-54 with senior Meredith Schulte leading the Lady Hawks with 34 points and 16 rebounds. Carrollton beat Paulding County 57-38. The Trojans' Montae Gleen had 28 points and 17 rebounds and Jarel Rowe with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists. Paulding County Yancy St. Germain led the Patriots with 14 points and has been averaging 24 points per game.

Chuck Miller Classic (At Henry County High School): The girls from Eagle's Landing Christian defeated neighbor Eagle's Landing 61-54. Sydney Spencer headed the Lady Chargers with 26 points. The Eagle's Landing boys dominated Eagle's Landing Christian 91-52, led by Darius Howard with 20 points. South Paulding' girls topped Monticello 51-23. Kelis Fizer led the team in with 16 points. Luella defeated Therrell 64-61 and the leading scorer for Lions was Andre Banton with 24 points and Jamel Days from Panthers with 14 points.

Jim Knight Classic (at North Cobb Christian): The North Cobb Christian girls defeated Johnson-Gainesville 60-58 in a game that came down to the final buzzer. Moriah Hidden led her team to victory again, racking up 30 points and 14 rebounds on the night. Junior Gabby Mills and freshman Briley Lawson put up 13 and eight points, respectively.

War Eagle Classic (at Woodward Academy): The Woodward Academy boys won a close game against Dutchtown 69-64. The leading scorer for the War Eagles was Jake Nustlehutt with 21 points. Sacred Heart Catholic out of Alabama came out on top of Hapeville Charter 60-47. Decatur boys defeated Starr's Mill 62-51. Cameron Head and Nate Scully led the Bulldogs with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Mundy's Mill won a close game over Mt. Zion-Jonesboro 69-62. Senior Jared Tate put up 18 points and juniors Cartez Crane and Kaelon Harris each had 12 points. 


The Sparkman boys out of Alabama defeated Westminster 51-50. Leading scorers were for the Wildcats were Ben Ladner and Mikael Sampson 17 and 14 points, respectively. The Woodward Academy girls dominated Starr's Mill 51-37. The Osborne girls defeated Westminster 55-42. Nikira Goings led the Lady Cardinals to victory with 22 points. Mundy's Mill girls team beat Mt. Zion-Jonesboro 57-31 with Kelsee Arnold leading the way with 21. The Wesleyan girls cruised past Sparkman 47-13 and the top scorer was senior Nikki McDonald with 17 points. The Holy Innocents' girls topped Langston Hughes 57-42.
