WEEKEND REWIND
By Craig Sager II
Region victories set up even bigger Week 9 slate

As we head into Week 9 of the regular season, we are down to 32 unbeaten teams. Class AAAAAA has just four of the remaining undefeated teams and they are separated into just two regions. Region 1's Colquitt County and Valdosta sit at 7-0 and the two teams will faceoff Friday night at Valdosta. 7-0 Grayson and 6-0 Dacula are the front-runners for the Region 8 title and will not meet until Oct. 24 at Dacula. Norcross took a sole lead of Region 7 with a 49-0 victory over to move to 4-0 in region play.

Milton dominated Cherokee, and as a result, Milton, Cherokee, Etowah Roswell and Woodstock all sit a three region-wins within a wide-open Region 5. Hillgrove poured a 72-point performance on Friday over North Paulding to remain perfect in Region 4 and McEachern dominated North Cobb to join the Hawks at the top of the region. Lovejoy and Tucker are both 3-0 in Region 2 and a redhot Westlake and Hughes are 3-0 at the top of Region 3. Alpharetta and South Forsyth are the only remaining teams in Region 6 without a region loss.

In Class AAAAA, one of the most significant victories this weekend was Sprayberry's 31-7 beatdown over Cambridge. The win gave the Yellow Jackets a 4-0 mark in region play and a tie with Kell for the top seed out of Region 7-Div B. Kell hosts Sprayberry on Oct. 31. Lanier's win over Gainesville kept the Longhorns unbeaten at 6-0 and gave them the sole lead in Region 8. Carver-Atlanta toppled defending Class AAAAA state champion Creekside 32-29 on Friday and made the Region 6 playoff picture that much more exciting with a game against Mays set for Oct. 24.

In Class AAAA, Marist suffered its first loss of the season in a 10-9 slugfest with St. Pius. This marked the Golden Lions' third-consecutive victory over the War Eagles.

Dodge County, Peach County, Westside-Macon, Washington County, Blessed Trinity, Westminster, Central-Carroll, Calhoun, Jefferson, Hart County and Oconee County are all undefeated teams left in Class AAA. Westminster will host Blessed Trinity as the only unbeaten showdown.

In Class AA, Benedictine topped Jeff Davis 42-0, while Vidalia enjoyed a bye week. This Friday sets up a Region 2 showdown between No. 2 Benedictine and No. 4 Vidalia.   In Class A, the stage is set for 7-0 Hawkinsville to visit 6-0 defending Class A-Public champion Marion County on Friday for a crucial Region 4 matchup.
