Chubb's debut garners national recognition

 

UGA freshman running back Nick Chubb rushed for seventy yards and a touchdown in Georgia's

45-21 win over Clemson. His highlight 47-yard touchdown and breakout performance earned him 247Sports National True Freshman of the Week honors.

 

At Cedartown (Ga.) High School, Chubb rushed for more than 2,600 yards rushing and 41 touchdowns as a senior and he was a five-star and Army All-American.

Pius, Harrison win at Clara Bowl

 

 

The St. Pius X boys and Harrison girls won at the Clara Bowl Invitational Saturday at Berry College. The Golden Lions were paced by four runners who finished in the top 10, while Harrison had two girls come in the top five.

            Quintin Miles of North Hall won the boys race at 16:18 while Sam Costa of Mill Creek took second with a time of 16:19. Stephen Martinez of St. Pius X, Jonathan Schwind of Lambert and Nik Calia of St. Pius X rounded out the top five.

            In the girls race, Pope's Ashley Kehoe took first with a time of 17:58 while Serena Tripodi of Lovett came in second with a time of 18:01. Hannah Petit of Mill Creek, Kira Stanley of Harrison and Mattie Rountree of Harrison rounded out the top five.

            East Jackson won the boys race at the 12th Annual Runaway meet at Jefferson after placing three runners in the top four. Chase Kennedy of East Jackson won the race with a time of 16:17 while Tyler Barber of Mil Creek came in second with a time of 16:18. Noah Hulett of East Jackson, Chandler Kennedy of East Jackson and Bobby Tucker of Mountain View 17:05.96.

            Mountain View took second place while Archer, Apalachee and Jefferson rounded out the top five.

            Athens Christian won the girls meet ahead of Mountain View, Jefferson, GAC and Morgan County. Sue Anne Moralis of East Jackson won the race with a time of 20:43.40 ahead of second-place finisher Tanner Guest of Athens Christian. Elizabeth Gunther of Athens Christian, Abby Kettle of GAC and Alyssa O'Neill of Mountain View rounded out the top five.

FALCONS IN THE COMMUNITY
Pacelli's Randy Grace named NFL High School Coach of the Week

 

 

The Atlanta Falcons are pleased to announce the winner of the 2014 High School Coach of the Week presented by Ford for the week of September 1.

 

High School Coach of the Week presented by Ford:

 

Randy Grace of St. Anne Pacelli located in Columbus has been selected as this week's NFL High School Coach of the Week presented by Ford. Last Friday, St. Anne Pacelli defeated Mt. de Sales, 44-10. With this victory, St. Anne Pacelli clinched its first win of the young season. Coach Grace was hired on December 17, 2010 as head coach at St. Anne Pacelli and served as a defensive coordinator at the school from 2002-2005.

 

Each week of the season, the winner of this award will receive a personalized certificate from the NFL, a commemorative game ball and a $1,000 grant from the NFL's Youth Football Fund to his school's athletic department.
