Creekside turns tragedy to triumph

10. Lovejoy receiver Preston Williams single-handily beats Marietta in the opening round of the playoffs. Williams scored four touchdowns, including a 47-yard game-winner as time expired to lead the Wildcats to a 27-23 walk-off victory.

9. Three Cambridge wrestlers won individual state titles and the Bears win a close race for the Class AAAAA traditional state title. The dramatic victory gave the school its first state title in any sport.

8. The Tucker girls beat region-rival and basketball powerhouse Southwest DeKalb for their first-ever state title. The Tigers jumped to an 8-0 lead and never trailed.

7. Fitting for No. 7, the Southwest Atlanta Christian girls basketball team plays the entire season with just seven girls on the roster. The Warriors faced an undefeated Holy Innocents' team in the Class A-Private championship and willed their way to a 59-52 victory.

6. After making the playoffs 17 straight seasons and falling short, Tift County returned to the state championship to beat Wheeler 63-49 in the Class AAAAAA title game.

5. Junior point guard Tookie Brown carried Morgan County to its first-ever state title with a game-high 36 points in the Bulldogs 69-45 win over Buford in the Class AAA state championship

4. Buford gymnastics overcame three falls on beam to open competition and dominated the floor, vault and bars to score a 110.225 and win its first-ever state title in just its second season of competition.

3. Kell's Sarah Bialecki broke a 10-10 tie with the game-winning goal with 2 minutes left to lead the Longhorns past Westminster. The win gave the Longhorns its first-ever lacrosse state title and marked the first Cobb County school to claim a girls lacrosse championship.

2. St. Pius wins first-ever boys swimming title' UGA-signee Gunnar Bentz swam a state record 1:45.55 race in the 200 medley and scored another first place finish for St. Pius X and a state record in the 100 butterfly with a 47.26 time. The Golden Lions needed a top finish in the final event, the four-man relay to win their first-ever state title. Bentz was the anchor and after trailing to start his leg of the race he surged past the competition and punched the wall at 3.09.23 to give the Golden Lions the Class A-AAAAA state title.
