GYMNASTICS NOTEBOOK

Lakeside wins DeKalb Championship

Senior Meg Stephens led Lakeside to its 18th DeKalb County championship on Thursday. Lakeside finished first ahead of second place Dunwoody and third place Arabia Mountain. Stephens swept the field last season in all-around but faced a strong field this year with a ton of returning experience. All six of last year's top all-around finishers returned. The victory gives Lakeside its third straight county title and fourth in the last seven seasons.

LACROSSE NOTEBOOK

Cambridge continues reaching new heights

The Cambridge boys pulled off an upset Thursday night with a hard-fought 8-7 win over Blessed Trinity in overtime. The teams entered the half tied 4-4 and went back and forth

Cambridge Athletics

in a playoff-type atmosphere. Cambridge (10-3), which opened as a school last year, matched its win total from its inaugural 10-8 season with the win. Only four of the Bears' 13 opponents this season currently have winning records, but their last two victories have come against 7-4 Wesleyan (12-7) and the 9-4 Titans. Cambridge head coach Russ Armistead and his squad get 12 days off before playing a brutal stretch of games against ranked teams including Class 5-1A No. 1 Northview (11-0) on April 15 and Class 6A No. 1 Milton (9-1) on April 23.

There are plenty of games to keep an eye on this weekend including Milton and undefeated (12-0) Gulf Coast (Fla.) on Friday. Class 5-1A No. 3 Lovett will face rival and Class 5-1A No. 2 Westminster. Saturday is highlighted with out of state matchups for Northview (Bartram Trail, Fla.), Centennial (Jupiter, Fla.), Milton (St. Thomas Aquinas, Fla.) and Peachtree Ridge (Wando, S.C.).

The St. Pius girls scored a 12-11 victory over Blessed Trinity on Thursday to move to 11-2. Blessed Trinity sits at 7-4 after the loss and will play Class 5-1A No. 1 Kell (14-0) next on April, 15. The Cambridge girls have not matched their incredible 16-win inaugural season yet, but they are on pace to. The Bears cruised to a 16-7 win over GAC on Thursday and improved to 10-1 with seven regular season games remaining.

Saturday's slate of games features a double header for Lassiter. The Trojans will play Ensworth (Tenn.) and Hutchinson (Tenn.). Class 6A No. 1 Milton will battle with Good Counsel (Md.), which sits at 4-0 and has outscored its opponents 83-10.
