Pre-playoffs rankings reflect upsets in region tourneys, show massive movement



In Class AAAAAA, North Gwinnett beat Norcross 59-48 on Wednesday for the Region 7 championship and replaced the Blue Devils at No. 2 in this week's poll. Wheeler reclaimed No. 1 in Class AAAAAA with its Region 5 title and former No. 1 Westlake's loss to Newnan in the Region semifinals. Pebblebrook debuts in the top 5 after claiming the top seed out of Region 4 on Wednesday over South Cobb. McEachern fell out of the top 10 and was replaced with Berkmar, who debuts at No. 8 after its Region 8 crown.


In Class AAAAA, Clarke Central and Warner Robins earned spots in the top 5 after region titles. Sprayberry fell to No. 10 after a second-place finish in Region 7 and Osborne debuts at No. 9 after topping the Yellow Jackets for the Region 7 championship.


Class AAAA got a makeover as South Atlanta, Eastside, Statesboro and Riverdale were bumped out of the top 10 after the region tournament. Region champions Johnson-Gainesville, Jonesboro, Rutland and River Ridge are the newest members of the poll.


In Class AAA, Cedar Grove jumped three spots to No. 7 with its Region 6 title and in Class AA, Crawford County replaced Taylor County in the poll and sits at No. 10.


Greenforest Christian took over No. 1 in Class A and Region 6 champion St. Francis moved up a spot to No. 2. Treutlen, Portal and Wilkinson County replaced Aquinas, Mount Vernon and Calhoun County in the Class A top 10.

Centennial to host SEC rivals


An SEC showdown will take place at Centennial High School on Friday, February 21st at 7pm. The University of Georgia will be hosting the University of Alabama under the lights for the South Eastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) Men's Lacrosse game "under the lights."  


Defending Champions, The University of Georgia, is the pick to repeat in the South Eastern Lacrosse Conference Division I 2014 Preseason Poll. The game will feature many players who have played high school lacrosse across the greater Atlanta area. Tickets are $5 at the gate. Gates open at 6 p.m. Concessions will be available. 



 On Saturday March 16th NCAA Men's Lacrosse comes to Atlanta, where Walton High School will be hosting a battle between two Division II lacrosse programs.  At 12pm on March 16th, Lenoir Rhyne University will be taking on Lynn College.  This is an outstanding matchup that also features many former Georgia High School standout players, including Ned Kaish from the 2011 State Champion Walton Raiders.
