WEATHER DELAYS
Region basketball tourney postponements

 

Winter weather warnings are affecting all high school activities, including many of the 96 region basketball tournaments. As a result, the GHSA made the announcement on Monday to push the state basketball tournament back one day to Wednesday, Feb. 19 to accommodate Monday's cancellations this week.

 

*The Atlanta Public school system, Cobb County and Fulton County have cancelled all after school activities.

 

*Cobb County's football banquet has been affected by weather for the second time and has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 24 (7 p.m.) at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.

 

Marietta City Schools: All after school activities and after school programs, including those programs provided by Marietta Community Schools, are cancelled.

Region 7-A changes:

Wednesday's games have been moved to Tuesday at the same times due to impending weather issues.

The below schedule was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but has been moved instead to Tuesday.

 

BOYS

Hancock Central vs. Warren County, 3 p.m.
Lincoln County vs. Georgia Military College, 4:30 p.m.
Aquinas vs. First Presbyterian Day, 6 p.m.

Wilkinson County vs. Glascock County, 7:30 p.m.

 

Rome City Schools: Due to the winter storm advisory there will be no school today. This will include students and staff. Region-6A was set to tip off at Darlington and will postpone to a later date.

 

Region 4-AAAA: The two Monday scheduled games have been moved up two hours. The North Clayton and Locust Grove  girls will tip at 4 p.m. and the the Griffin-Locust Grove boys game will follow its conclusion.

 

Region 7-AAAA: All Monday games that were set to play at Cass have been cancelled.

 

Region 5-AAAAAA: The boys game between Wheeler and Woodstock has been postponed until further notice.

 

Atlanta Public Schools have cancelled classes for Tuesday and Wednesday.

 

Region 5-A: Due to the impending winter weather, the Region 5A Tournament has been cut down to eight teams and will begin on Thursday.

 

Region 6-AAA: Basketball tournament has been postponed. New schedule yet to be determined.

 

Region 7-AA: Basketball tournament at Calhoun High School has been postponed from its Monday start until further notice.

 

*Cobb County cancels all acivities planned for Tuesday and Wednesday (massive changes coming in brackets).

 

*Forsyth County cancels all activities planned for Tuesday

 

*Marietta City Schools will be closed Tues. & Wed.

 

*Hall County Schools will be closed Tuesday.

 

8-AAAA boys quarterfinal games scheduled for Tuesday have been cancelled and are TBD.

GAC tops Wesleyan, Darlington makes its move

 

In Class AAAAAA, Norcross suffered a 48-43 loss to Duluth last week and dropped two spots to No. 9. Westlake beat Hughes 52-41 and moved up to No. 7 and sent Hughes

out of the top 10. Brunswick took advantage of Norcross and Hughes' losses and moved up to No. 8 in the poll after its 56-49 win over Coffee and its 102-27 victory over Windsor Forest. Douglas County comes in at No. 10 and replaces Hughes, which the Tigers beat 56-49 on Feb. 1, in the top 10.

 

In Class AAAAA, Greenbrier debuts at No. 10 and Sequoyah exits the poll after a 60-46 loss to No. 8 Osborne. Carrollton and Mary Persons each dropped three places in Class AAAA after suffering losses last week. The Trojans fell 31-28 to Fayette County and fell to No. 9 and Mary Persons fell to No. 10 with its 73-72 to West Laurens.

 

Beach was the only team out of the top four in Class AAA that did not lose last week and debuts in the top five this week. Dodge County lost to No. 1 Washington County and Class AAAAA Northside-Warner Robins 65-47 and dropped one place to No. 6. Morgan County fell to No. 7 after a 48-28 loss to Franklin County, but North Oconee bounced back from a 30-28 loss to Elbert County with a 42-28 win over Franklin County and jumped ahead of the Franklin County in this week's poll. Southwest-Macon dropped out of the poll with a 56-54 loss to Pike County and was replaced by No. 8 Central-Carroll.

 

In Class AA, Greater Atlanta Christian moves to No. 2 with its 53-43 win over Wesleyan. The Wolves dropped one spot to No. 3 in the poll. Pepperell exits the poll after a 61-46 loss to Calhoun and Vidalia reentered the top 10.

 

In Class A, Darlington jumped four spots to No. 6 with its 66-42 win over Gordon Lee. The Trojans fell to No. 10 after the loss to Darlington. Claxton improved to No. 7 with its 52-51 win over Calvary Day last week.

LACROSSE SHOWDOWN
Centennial to host SEC rivals

 

An SEC showdown will take place at Centennial High School on Friday, February 21st at 7pm. The University of Georgia will be hosting the University of Alabama under the lights for the South Eastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) Men's Lacrosse game "under the lights."  

 

Defending Champions, The University of Georgia, is the pick to repeat in the South Eastern Lacrosse Conference Division I 2014 Preseason Poll. The game will feature many players who have played high school lacrosse across the greater Atlanta area. Tickets are $5 at the gate. Gates open at 6 p.m. Concessions will be available.
