Marist, Holy Innocents' this week's new No. 1's
In Class AAAAAA, No. 1 Walton cruised through its six opponents on Saturday, including a (25-14, 25-21) beatdown of Chattahoochee and wins over Roswell and Sandy Creek. No. 2 South Forsyth played seven cross-state matches over the weekend and dropped four of them, but will be well-tested for a region battle with Chattahoochee Tuesday night.
In Class AAAAA, Pope was exposed by Sequoyah (25-9, 25-20) and the Greyhounds drop to No. 7. Sequoyah's resume locks them in at No. 2 over Starr's Mill after adding a big win over Woodstock last week as well.
Sandy Creek continues its battle through one of the toughest schedules in the state, but the Patriots were able to grab a huge win over previously No. 1 Columbus on Thursday. Marist takes over the No. 1 spot in Class AAAA after a win over Class AAAAAA North Cobb and Columbus takes over No. 2. Sandy Creek jumps to No. 6.
Fresh off a County title, Buford witnessed first hand how tough Class AAA No. 1 Blessed Trinity is during a (25-7, 25-21) defeat last Tuesday. Morgan County comes in at No. 8 after beating previously No. 6 ranked Oconee County.
In Class AA, the rankings stayed the same, but a battle between No. 3 Lovett and No 1 Westminster is slated for Tuesday night.

Cobb standouts honored at Marietta
The Cobb County Touchdown Club holds a midseason banquet and then a formal end of the year banquet each season. Each week the 20 Cobb schools pick an offensive and defensive player of the week and at the banquet, each recipient is recognized. The midseason banquet is held at Marietta High School.
There were some familiar faces among the honorees like North Cobb quarterback Tyler Queen and Marietta linebackerTyrell Tomlin who both grabbed awards at the midseason and end of the year banquets last year. However, some of the new faces have been in the spotlight for much of the season already.Hillgrove quarterback Elijah Ironside threw seven touchdowns last week and has the Hawks off to an undefeated start. ELITE JUNIOR: WILLIE JORDAN
By Chris Schutter

Jordan leads Eagles in quest for state gold
Willie Jordan is a dominant running back out of Northside-Warner Robins and has started the season off with a bang. In his first two games, he has run for nearly 250 yards and five touchdowns. Four of the five touchdowns came in the first half against Veterans. Willie was not used much in his sophomore year, even though he had the second-highest yards per carry on his team for players with more than 10 carries. His small sample size has been enough to impress some colleges, and he will surely bring more attention as the season goes on.
Willie went to a camp at the University of Florida this summer, and plans on attending a lot more this summer. "I'll go to a lot more this year to kind of get my name out there," said Willie. His play speaks for itself, but he'll go the extra mile to make sure that schools understand his value to their team. The University of South Carolina is ahead of the curve as the Gamecocks are already in contact with Willie about recruitment. His 3.2 GPA makes him an even more valuable recruit to any higher learning institution.
"I want to be a coach someday," Willie says, "So I think I'll work in sports management to get there."
When asked about his free time activities, Willie landed right back on sports.
"I like to work out and see what I can do to work on my game," Willie said, "I'm also trying to stay focused on my grades. All my life I'm trying to succeed."
His work ethic has been apparent on and off the field, and Willie is one of the leaders of a perennial state championship contender.
