And Rare Sportsfilms is celebrating "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" with two new DVDs - one showing the 1935 race won by Kelly Petillo and the other covering 1980 when Johnny Rutherford became a three-time winner of the 500 36 years ago!

Check out the details below about these latest additions to our Indy DVD collection!

"BENCH RACING WEEKEND" in Indianapolis!

Former Indy drivers Johnny Parsons, Jr., Paul Goldsmith, and Eldon Rasmussen
flank Speedway historian Donald Davidson (2nd from left) at Bench Racing Weekend.

Three former Indianapolis drivers, along with dozens of serious Indy 500 racing fans and racing Old Timers had a terrific weekend of fun recently at the annual "Bench Racing Weekend" gathering at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Indianapolis.   Paul Goldsmith, Eldon Rasmussen and Johnny Parsons, Jr. were reunited with fans and former Indy crew chiefs Ronnie Dawes, Paul Diatlovich and Mike Devin were interviewed on stage by famed Indy racing historian Donald Davidson.

On Friday night Barb Hellyer showed videos of old open wheel races and all day Saturday Doak Ewing showed actual vintage films of the 500 from years gone by, none of which are available on DVD from any source.   In the lobby on display were two cars formerly driven in the 500, the #25 Daniel Cablevision Special driven by Lloyd Ruby in 1970, and the #7 Leader Card Racer, driven to 2nd place by Len Sutton in 1962 (see photos).   Besides the movies, a vendor area at the hotel was open all afternoon, as well as a hospitality room where Wanda Devin (mother of Al Unser, Jr.) welcomed casual conversation about her years in the racing fraternity.   Serious Indy fans call "Bench Racing Weekend" a 'must attend' yearly Indianapolis racing event!   The organizers have a new website at www.indybrw.com.   Check it out and plan to attend in March of 2017!
