Cincinnati's Johnny (double no-hit) Vander Meer started on the mound for the National League at the first All-Star Game ever played in Cincinnati, July 6, 1938. He pitched three shutout innings, giving up only a hit to Joe Cronin, and was the winning pitcher at old Crosley Field. You'll see Vander Meer in action on our latest Rare Sportsfilms All-Star Game DVD!

Dear Rare Sportsfilms Subscriber,
It's time for baseball's annual All-Star Game, played this year at Cincinnati's Great American Ballpark! This will be the 5th classic played in Cincy (1938, 1953, 1970, 1988 and 2015), and, just in time for this year's event, Rare Sportsfilms is releasing The All-Star Game, "From Ruth To Mays" on DVD - a compilation of rare All-Star game footage from 1933 thru 1957 (the year Cincinnati fans stuffed the ballot box and elected Reds to every starting position except first base)!
We're on our way to Cincinnati for the Cincy Sports Fest collectors show in Covington, Kentucky (right across the river from Cincinnati at the Covington Convention Center and held in conjunction with the All-Star game)! We'll be at booth E13 - stop by to say hello and see our two new baseball DVDs!
We also look forward to soon exhibiting at the huge National Sports Collectors Convention in Rosemont, Illinois (booth 426) July 29-August 2. Make plans to stop by and experience first hand the superior quality of our vintage sports DVDs. We always enjoy making new acquaintances and welcoming old friends. Click Here for more information about this year's National Convention!
Thanks for your business and we hope to see you in Covington or Rosemont soon!

Schabowski Recounts
"Disco Demo Night"
for SABR
Long-time Rare Sportsfilms customer and Milwaukee Braves historian Rick Schabowski gave an in-depth talk last week about an infamous night in the history of old Comiskey Park - "Disco Demolition Night" July 12, 1979. The occasion was the annual National SABR (Society for American Baseball Research) Convention, held this year in Chicago. Rick's presentation gave a background leading up to the event, and an account about how the evening went horribly wrong when thousands of frenzied, drunken and disorderly anti-disco fans caused a fan and player safety issue between games of a scheduled doubleheader with the Tigers. The unplayable second game of the DH was forfeited to Detroit!
Rick previously presented an account of another memorable forfeit at an earlier SABR National held in Washington, D.C. In that September 30th 1971 game, manager Ted Williams' Senators were beating the Yankees 7-5 in what would be the last Senators game in D.C. when souvenir-seeking fans stormed the field with two outs in the 9th inning. When the fans would not leave the playing field, the game could not be continued, so the home team was forced to forfeit to the Yankees!
Rick enjoys the challenge of giving his listeners a feeling of "being there" at these famous events in baseball history. Three-time baseball "Executive of the year" Roland Hemond, who has 64 years of professional baseball experience himself states that "these are certainly famous sports events to recall, as they are still talked about today - some 30-40 years later!"
Now for some baseball trivia: The final Senators game in Washington, the second game of a DH "Disco Demo Night" in Chicago, and the infamous "10-Cent Beer Night" in Cleveland June 4, 1974 are all never-to-be-forgotten baseball forfeits. Name the only player to have been in uniform at all three famous incidents!
