Center Supports Logger
in East TN

The Center recently assisted Madison Logging Center Supports Logger in East TNof Caryville, Tennessee with obtaining FSC chain of custody certification through the Center's group certificate. While the certification of a logging firm is not unique, the ties that Madison Logging has with both purchasers of chips and roundwood and landowners they cut timber on, opens up opportunities to improve forest management. Center Passes FM and CoC Audit

The Center for Forest and Wood Certification has passed annual  surveillance audits for Sustainable Forestry Initiative and Forest Stewardship Council chain-of-custody and Center Passes FM and CoC AuditsAmerican Tree Farm System and Forest Stewardship Council forest management group certificates. For the CoC audit, auditors conducted site visits at Curry Timber Products, Antique River Logs, and Mercantile Lumber. This audit allows the Center to continue to provide certification services to all aspects of the supply chain. You can read more about the audit and reports here.

LEED/FSC Requirements
Cause CoC Issues

Last year, Natural Interiors detailed the issues with the U.S. Green Building Council and their Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) requirements relating to FSC chain-of-custody requirements. The article's author, Nancy Kibbee, details that several flooring manufacturers, retailers, and installers think FSC and LEED's requirements go too far. You can read more about the issue on Natural Interiors website here.
