In light of the recent decision to end the rabbi's contract (for NS financial reasons), services and classes led by Rabbi Deborah Brin are suspended for the time being. These classes include the Meditation class on the first Wednesday of each month, Learn to Read Hebrew (Fridays) and Torah Study with Rabbi Brin (Fridays.) Caring for Ourselves and Our Loved Ones is meeting the afternoon of Sunday, April 10, but it will continue only if a new group leader comes forward. Rabbi Brin will be leading the Leeman Bar Mitzvah on April 16.

- 11:45 am - 1 pm. Beyond the Torah. Front entry room. We are delving into the entire Bible, book by book. Join us as we discern the literal, ethical and spiritual meaning of the great writings of our ancestors. We are a self-led group and rely on assorted commentary as well as our own sensibilities. No ongoing commitment is required. Join us every week or as the spirit moves you.

- 6:30 pm. Der Freylekher Shabbes. Sanctuary. A joyous danced Shabbat service in a heimishe, old-country Eastern European style led by cantorial soloist/ music director Beth Cohen, Alavados holy days band, Rikud dance troupe, The Nahalat Shalom Community Klezmer Band and surprise appearances by Rabbi Brin. These are USUALLY on the first Friday evening of the month. At 6:30pm we begin with a danced Shabbat service led by Rikud to live music by Alavados, plus lighting candles, Mishebeyrach, Kaddish Yatom, Kiddush & motzee; 7:10pm-potluck vegetarian dinner; 7:55-Birkat Hamazon; 8-9pm Yiddish dancing with Rikud to a live Klezmer music JAM led by The Community Klezmer Band. Everyone is welcome to all or any part of the evening's celebrations.
Saturday, April 9, 10:00 am. This is WHoly Ground, HalleluYah! Sanctuary. Please join Sofie Shefia Stephanie Cohen this Saturday (and every other month) in celebrating Shabbat morning with joy and gratefulness! as we experience 'bringing heaven to earth', through the Divine Presence within each of us! (Kadosh, kadosh kadosh....the earth is full of Your Glory!). We will be chanting, doing healing body movements and using energizing G!d language. Sunday, April 10- 10 am. Pre-K Cheder. - 1:30-3:30 pm. Caring for Ourselves and Our Loved Ones. Bayt B'racha. Our monthly meeting is a time to share with each other while we care for loved ones who are ill, declining in health, or aging. The Rabbi helps us listen to and support each other, while gently reminding us of the importance of taking time for ourselves. If you are caring for a loved one - of any age - and would like to have a place to come for supportive ears, please join us. You'll feel better when you leave!

Through chant, dance (if you're able), movement, meditation, and visualization, we will open ourselves to the direct experience and awareness of the ever-present light within and without. Front of House Committee The Front of Committee needs volunteers for various events throughout the year. We need people to help: - Setup and bring out food,
- Cleanup/break down tables and chairs, sweep crumbs, bring trash to bins,
- Greet and escort guests, and
- Help guide cars for parking.

Immigration Seminar at St. Mark's Episcopal Church (431 Richmond Place NE) on Saturday April 9, 9am-1:30pm
An abbreviated presentation will take place that afternoon at Holy Rosary (5415 Fortuna Rd NW) from 1:30-4pm. The seminars are led by the New Mexico Faith Coalition for Immigrant Justice with featured presentation of photos and stories by Investigative Reporter/Photographer Joseph Sorrentino who has documented stories of Central American refugees journeying the 1500 miles up Mexico to reach the Rio Grande. Other topics will include family detention centers, the theology of accompaniment and the sharing of personal stories by immigrants. Snacks will be offered. $10 donation. This event is free and includes lunch and transportation to and from the JCC for the activities. Open to all children grades 8-12. J-Serve is an international day of Jewish youth community service. Free and open to the public. In the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, 201 W. Marcy. Talks on Passover by Rabbis Neil Amswych, Martin Levy, and Jack Shlachter. Hear Nurit Patt interview Rebbetzin Rivkah Wittenstein about Passover foods. Displays of the Seder table, Seder plates, Haggadot, and Matzah covers. Activity table for children to make a Seder plate, a Haggadah, or more. Contributions of baked goods are welcome. Clean out your hametz, share with the community. Chai was a member of the Nahalat Shalom community in his younger days, a vibrant part of the Cheder back when stilt-walking and paper-mache puppets were the thing. He left us unexpectedly. Please join us for an event filled with photos and music on a Sunday afternoon in April to remember this remarkable young man.

YOM HASHOAH - HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY
The Holocaust & Intolerance Museum of New Mexico, the Jewish Federation of New Mexico, and the Jewish Community Center, invites you to join us on Sunday, May 1, 2016 for two free community events to remember and honor the six million Jews who perished during the Holocaust. WHERE: CONGREGATION B'NAI ISRAEL (Indian School & Washington). WHEN: Sunday, May 1, 2016 @ 2 P.M. WHAT: "Suicide Run" an original play written by Raye Cohen performed by local actors where a Holocaust survivor meets a troubled teenage boy. OPENING RECEPTION for our new exhibit In Memoriam follows from 4 - 7 P.M. Our featured teachers will be: Loui Tucker teaching line and couple dances from Israel, Hardeep Sahota teaching Bhangra from the Punjab, and Nicolle Jensen (of the Santa Fe Balkan band, Rumelia) teaching Balkan and Middle Eastern drumming. HUD Waiting List will be Open for Shalom House April 1st
Effective April 1st, the HUD waiting list will be open to receive new applications. Anyone who is 62+ that is interested in living at Shalom House should come by and fill out an application to secure a place on the waiting list. This is no guarantee that an apartment will be available at a specific time, just a guarantee that one's place on the waiting list is secured and that sooner or later, everyone's name rises to the top. HUD housing is for people whose annual income is low. Those who qualify have either "Very Low Income" of up to $20,800 annually or "Extra Low income" of up to $12,500 annually. Chocolate Matzah Recipe, by Nessa Weinberg, Loey Cohen Kirk, z'l, & Wendy Cohen
Line a large baking pan that has sides with tin foil. Place 4 - 5 regular matzahs in the bottom of the pan, making only one layer. Melt 1 cup of butter and 1 cup of dark brown sugar until boiling, then boil for 3 minutes until thick and carmelly. Pour evenly over the matzah. Bake in preheated oven for 5 minutes. Remove from oven and cool for one minute. Pour semi-sweet dark chocolate chips evenly over the top. Let soften, then spread with as spoon over the carmeled matzah. Sprinkle with nuts if desired. Refrigerate to set. Break into pieces and store in the fridge.

Emergency Assistance Available
The Jewish Care Program at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Albuquerque provides limited financial aid to Jewish individuals and families in crisis. If in need, please call (505) 348-4451. The Jewish Care Program receives a large number of calls and is not always able to respond to all requests for emergency assistance. Here's what they offer: - General Financial Assistance: The Miriam's Well Fund provides one-time, short-term emergency financial assistance to Jewish Women in crisis.
- Utility Assistance: The Jewish Women's Endowment Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of New Mexico (JCFNM) provides one-time utility assistance to Jewish women and children in crisis.
- Rental Assistance: The Ziegler Fund of the JCFNM provides one-time emergency rental assistance to Jewish men and women in crisis.
- Indigent Burial Assistance: the Carole Beckhoff Indigent Burial Fund of the JCFNM provides assistance with burial costs of Jewish individuals.

About Tikkun Olam Club: Please email any project ideas or questions about current projects to nstikkunolam@gmail.com. We are looking for projects where we can work together. It has been suggested that we adopt a trail or median near Nahalat Shalom. This would require meeting monthly to pick up trash. Interested? How Shopping Can Helps Us
Did you know that shopping at Albertson's and using a swipe card (available at NS in the copier room) earns dividends for Nahalat Shalom? Also true for Smith's, and we will soon have a Smith's swipe card, too. It's an easy way to help NS, especially if you already shop there.

Chemical-Free Space
Please keep our buildings free of perfumes/fragrances in consideration of our members who are chemically sensitive. This is a serious medical issue for some, and completely preventable. Leaders, please announce at all meetings that "this is a fragrance-free zone".
