Crime & Code Chairman, Nick Sikich, with Program Manager Dawn Carlson, show off the Alliance's new crime fighting tool - a mobile camera unit currently situated on Ramona Ave. near Cucamonga.
The Power Inn Alliance has approved an initiative from the Crime and Code Committee to install a high resolution, mobile video surveillance camera at various crime "Hot Spots" throughout the area over the next six months. "This camera, with four lenses in all directions, will be monitored 24 hours a day and warning of suspicious activity," said Crime and Code Chairman Nick Sikich.
The camera has been initially placed on Ramona Ave, but will be rotated to at least three other "Hot Spot" locations during the next six months to test its effectiveness as a crime-fighting tool. The $8,000 unit is leased from Video Monitoring Solutions. The Video is monitored 24/7 by Total Monitoring Services and regularly by The Alliance itself.
If the test proves successful, consideration will be given to purchasing the unit for year 'round use. The camera can capture theft, speeding and other suspicious activity as far as ¼ mile away.
