Greetings!


 

 One of our main goals has been to create strong network and powerful connections to our members. Now we are offering, for those of you who are local in Palm Beach county, an added membership benefit. With only additional $50.00 to your regular membership due, you will get a membership with Lantana Chamber (read more below). This allows added visibility for local small businesses without breaking the bank.

 

We have grown stronger over the years.  Just this year, we have been happy to welcome at least four new business to our regions: Foreship, HappyOrNot, Metal Sports and Wyncode. We've also been joined by GMMI, Sedamic and Cancer Insurance, who have been serving the region for longer.

Welcome New Members

Ano Turtiainen, the owner and founder of Metal Sports Inc. Ano represented the Finnish national team in international powerlifting competitions for the first time in 1992. Ano has competed in international IPF and WPC/WPO powerlifting alliances. In addition to Finnish championships he also has five European championships and six world championships in IPF/WPC/WPO alliances. Ano has achieved several world and European records in powerlifting, of which one is still in effect, the WPO world record in deadlift, 405.5 kg in under 125kg class. He also won the highly regarded WPO money league first Heavy Weight class finals in 2002, which were organized at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic event in Ohio.

Ano owns the METAL trademark. He operates as an entrepreneur with the METAL SPORT group both in Finland and in the United States. The company designs, produces, markets and sells METAL SPORT leisure garments, powerlifting gear, powerlifting racks, fitness accessories and equipment. The METAL Gym chain of fitness centers and organizing international sports events is also part of the METAL SPORT group.

Ano and his wife Minna recently organized a very successful Powerlifting World Championship competitions in West Palm Beach, FL. 

 

 

Foreship logo Foreship, LLC is the U.S. subsidiary of Foreship Ltd., a naval architect and marine engineering company based in Finland. Foreship specializes in ship design and engineering, the group employing more than 60 professionals like naval architects, marine and structural engineers, interior and HVAC designers, and electrical engineers.

Our customers include the world's largest cruise lines, as well as passenger and cargo ship owners, offshore operators, leading shipyards and maritime suppliers. We are the leading cruise ship new building consultant and conversion specialist, and have participated in most of the recent large new buildings and challenging conversion projects.

Foreship, LLC is located in the Brickell Avenue Miami, Florida, and currently employs three people.

Wyncode is an accelerated learning program based at the LAB Miami in Wynwood. We teach Ruby on Rails and JavaScript in a condensed 9 week bootcamp format. Their first two cohorts have been very successful, with over 90% of our graduates placed in local tech start ups. They're growing their full and part-time teaching team and are looking for experts in Ruby on Rails (particularly someone who is bilingual). Florida's unemployment rate falls to 6 percent

Florida's unemployment rate fell to 6 percent in October, a new six-year-low, as the stated added a healthy 34,400 jobs over the month. Over the past year, the state has added 206,800 jobs, a 2.7 percent increase. The bulk of new jobs, as always, came in the private sector but government also was up by 2,400 jobs from September. Club seats, suites and special events keeping the SunLife stadium going

Despite the Miami Dolphins' half-decade playoff drought, Sun Life Stadium's three biggest revenue streams - premium seating, non-NFL events and sponsorships - all grew in the last fiscal year.

That's according to Fitch Ratings, which on Thursday made public financial information that pro sports franchises usually keep private. Full story here. 

 

Florida reacts to President Obama's immigration action

The president's move to protect the parents of children who are U.S. citizens or legal residents struck deeply in South Florida, where more illegal immigrants have moved to in the past five years than nearly any other region of the country. Read more here.

U.S. economy grew at 3.9 percent in third quarter

The U.S. economy grew at a solid 3.9 percent annual rate in the July-September period, even faster than first reported, giving the country its strongest six months of growth in more than a decade. Full story here.

Nokia is back!

Finland's Nokia has announced a return to consumer electronics with the launch of an Android-powered tablet. The N1 runs on Google's Android Lollipop operating software but features Nokia's Z Launcher intelligent home screen interface.The launcher lets users write on the screen to find apps faster. The user interface also changes the apps shown on the front page depending on usage. Full story here.

 

Put your data on Up Cloud storage  

Finnish cloud hosting company Up Cloud says it has launched the world's fastest cloud hosting storage backend at just 20 cents a gigabyte per month. High performance MaxIOPS storage backend was launched this week at the Slush tech conference in Helsinki, and UpCloud also announced the opening of its Chicago data centre.

- With MaxIOPS technology we're able to deliver up to 400,000 IOPS (input/output operations per second)to a single virtual machine. That's comparable to the performance of eight enterprise-grade SSDs (solid state drives), Up Cloud founder and CTO Joel Pihlajamaa said in a statement. Full story here.

 

Extreme travel: view the Northern Lights from an Igloo

A new collection of glass-roofed igloos allows travellers to Finnish Lapland to see the Northern Lights in warmth and comfort. The 15 igloos, which open next month, are located next to the Arctic Snow Hotel, about 25 kilometers from Rovaniemi. Each one measures 20 square meter and features thermal glass roofs, heated floors, adjustable twin beds, a bathroom with shower and an optional aurora alarm. You can even have your breakfast served in the igloo. More here.

 
Measuring well-being
Measuring personal well-being is a global phenomenon and the Finnish well-being companies appearing at Slush have decided to inspire a change in the habits of their users. Cuckoo Workout, which, according to its founders, is like Zumba meets Candy Crush Saga at the office,and Nordic Diet Apps, which instructs users on how to eat according to the Nordic Plate Diet, are bringing Finnish well-being thinking to the world. Time to bring the Moomins to the U.S. audience?

The animated film Moomins on the Riviera, created in honor of Tove Jansson's centennial celebrations, has already attracted 157,376 viewers in Finland. The film has been sold to nearly 40 countries.

Moomins on the Riviera will premiere in Australia and New Zealand in September 2015. Victory will distribute the film in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. In addition, Vertigo reported this month that it would be distributing the movie to cinemas in the UK and Ireland. Full story here.
