As you may have noticed we have created a new Trustee membership level. With that we are offering a unique opportunity for selective companies to take a stronger role in our chamber,  as an advisor or an `idea bank`to the board. In return the Trustee members will receive higher visibility at our events, special invitations and recognition. Florida's focus is on economic development
According to Florida's Secretary of Commerce and President and CEO of Enterprise Florida, the state has been taking more active role in pursuing economic development in latest years. Focus on seeking business growth has escalated especially after Mr. Swoope taking over the state organization at 2011. Mr. Swoope names the common ingredient to successful cities being partnership between business leaders and elected officials. In last two years Enterprise Florida's strategy has focused on marketing opportunity, facilitating their growth, and working on competitive projects. Port Miami Invests $2 billion to attract new super ships
The Panama Canal is getting a $5 billion expansion in order to get big super ships through its locks. There is plenty of ports in the U.S. east cost running after the business, with the Port Miami investing $2 billion on aiming to attract the new super ships. Florida is a housing market to watch in forthcoming year 2014
Home prices have risen in west this year, but Florida's housing market will get back into the national eye next year, states the Home Buying Institute. Housing inventory is dropping in some of the biggest cities in Florida, such as Naples, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Daytona Beach, while housing demand is rising across the state. Global trade lead Florida out of recession

According to the study conducted by the Florida Chamber Foundation in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation, global trade had a key role in getting the state's economy out of the recession. Within two years from 2010, Flordia created almost 23,000 new jobs in trade and logistics, while the value of exported goods increased with nearly $11 billion. In case Florida succeeds at accelerating the global trade opportunities, it could create 150,000 new jobs in the branch during following five years. To read more about the new, please click here.

 

The attendance at Universal Orlando is lifted by New Transformers

The Universal Orlando succeeded in lifting attendance and guest spending with a new Transformers-theme thrill ride. This lead NBCUniversal's overall theme-park business to the strongest quarterly performance in its existence, lifting operating cash flow with 8.6% during the third quarter when compared with a year ago. The parent company of the NBCUniversal, cable giant Comcast Corp., stated that it has been the biggest quarterly operating cash flow in all times produced by the parks division, that also includes Universal Studios Hollywood in California and overseas resorts in Singapore and Japan. Boeing finalizes agreement for Kennedy Space Center Facility

Boeing has finalized an agreement with Space Florida to use a processing facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center to build the Crew Space Transportation (CST)-100 spacecraft, an important step toward restoring the United States' ability to launch humans into space. Frank Dibello, president and CEO at Space Florida states that the resources and expertise on the Space Coast are vital to their plans and this agreement makes their partnership with the state of Florida solid. Finland's winter wonders gets attention from the Washington Times
The Washington times article describes Finland as a county, that best crystalizes winter season, explaining Finland's most popular winter sports and activities, as well as Finns passion and habits related to magnificent winter time. Supercell gets sold with $1,53 billion, the new company stays in Finland
The new company that shall be founded to Finland, is going to buy the majority share of Supercell. The new owners are the World's third-largest teleoperator, Japanese Softbank and Japanese gaming company Gungho that is also owned by Softbank. The CEO of Supercell, Ilkka Paananen, states that important reasons for the sale were the similarity in company philosophies and the help received by the buyers to develop the business further. To read more about topic, click here.
 
Finland is the key player in health and wellness innovations in Europe
Finland has world-class organizations in the health and wellness industry, internationally high standards in medical research, and high level of investment in research and development, which has led to many achievements, such as extensive exports in health technology. Despite the recession, Finland's health technology manufacturing and exports have grown on average over 8% annual rate. In year 2012 the health technology exports stormed up with 23%. Finland has succeeded well in international assessments of the quality of life and happiness, because of such factors as well running society and a high level of education. In addition, the impressive quantity, quality, and timeliness of health data entered and collected via routine healthcare in Finland has provided the country with unique information resources and the best biobanks in Europe. The basic skills of Finns are among the World's best
A survey conducted by the OECD shows that Finns have excellent literacy and numeracy skills. The average literature score of Finns showed to be 288, being considerably higher than the average of OECD countries in the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) 2012 survey. Finland scored in both literacy and numeracy skills second, right after Japan. Two thirds of adult population of Finns are excellent or good readers. Finnish Energy Ambassador Petri Ikonen states that energy efficiency is what Finland is best at
The Energy Ambassador Petri Ikonen is employed by the Vaasa Region Development and Energy Vaasa, having the job to recount the people all over the World the Finnish energy expertise and exports. According to Ikonen, energy efficiency is the core of Finnish energy expertise, which is often considered as a matter of course by Finns since long winters and cold-climate has made residents of Finland used to efficiently working heating. Prospects for vaccine against diabetes boosted by Finnish breakthrough
A Finnish research team has identified a virus believed to cause type 1 diabetes. The researches have already tested a prototype vaccine successfully in mice. The researchers at Tampere University would be ready to test prototype of vaccine with humans but the clinical trial would cost around 700 million euros. Millenium Distinction Awards to stem cell researchers and Jolla
Technology Academy Finland (TAF) the Millenium Distinction Awards have been given to a Finnish stem cell researcher Riikka Lundand and the Helsinki based biotechnology company Glykos for their research work in the field. In addition, the award has been given to the mobile phone company Jolla and Matti Rossi, a professor from Aalto University for the work they have done in open source field. The purpose of the Millennium Distinction Awards is to give recognition to outstanding Finnish achievements in the same field as the most recent Millennium Technology Grand Prize winners. Please welcome our New Intern

Our New intern, Mari Manelius, comes originally from Simo, a small town in Northern Finland. At the moment Mari is conducting a Master's Degree in international business at Oulu University, with minors in marketing and business laws. Earlier Mari has finalized a BBA-degree in English in international business and marketing. She is currently living in Edsev÷ in Finland, which is a small Swedish-speaking town close by Kokkola.
