To get the work done most efficiently, the interpretive center must be closed to the public for approximately a week from July 19-26.
Renovations to the center include replacement of carpet in the center's entry way, concession and office areas. Also ceiling tiles will be replaced in part of the theater and repairs will be done to the mechanical systems.
Repairs to the monument involve temporarily removing the existing pink granite steps from around the 17-foot-tall monument stone to repair the foundation, according to Wright-Patterson's cultural resources office.

Springfield to host barnstorming carnival
|
The nostalgia of aviation's Golden Age will come roaring back in the Barnstorming Carnival July 19-20 at Springfield Municipal Airport. In the 1920s and 1930s, vagabond pilots in biplanes brought the thrill of flight to communities across the United States. These "barnstormers" traveled from town to town offering airplane rides and putting on airshows to make a living. At Springfield, pilots with beautifully restored, antique biplanes will sell rides, and a host of other activities will be available. Admission to the event is free. Go here for more details.
