The Armstrong Air and Space Museum and the city of Wapakoneta have teamed up to produce the Summer Moon Festival from Wednesay, July 17 through Sunday, July 21 in the hometown of Neil Armstrong, the first human to walk on the moon.

The dates coincide with the Apollo 11 flight to the moon in 1969, which culiminated in the first human landing on the moon's surface by Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on July 20 of that year.

Festival activities will take place in downtown Wapakoneta along the Auglaize River and at the Armstrong Museum, located just off Interstate 75 at Exit 110.

Former NASA astronaut and space shuttle pilot Greg Johnson will make a special appearance during the 5K-10K Run to the Moon on Saturday, July 20.

Visit the city's Summer Moon Festival website for more details. The Armstrong Museum is a NAHA partner.

CNET News, an online service of CBS, has posted a feature story about the Wright brothers's invention of the airplane with a focus on their work in Dayton.

CNET News Reporter Daniel Terdiman recently visited the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, a NAHA partner, and captured the essential details about the methodical research Wilbur and Orville Wright did in their West Third Street bicycle shop and the follow-up experiments on Huffman Prairie that led to the 1905 Wright Flyer III-the first practical airplane.

"A lifelong fan of airplanes and aviation, I couldn't resist the opportunity to come to Dayton on Road Trip 2013, and learn about the Wright brothers and how they changed the world," Terdiman wrote, referring to his continuing CNET News column.
