Tuskegee Airmen, Disney Planes
join Vectren Dayton Air Show lineup
The RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit, an inspiring display about the Tuskegee Airmen, will make its first-ever appearance at the Vectren Dayton Air Show June 22-23 at Dayton International Airport.
Sponsored by the Texas Flying Legends Museum and the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Red Tail Squadron, RISE ABOVE is a custom trailer that creates a 30-seat, climate-controlled theater with a 160-degree panoramic screen. Audiences will watch an inspiring story from the 1940s of how the Tuskegee Airmen overcame many obstacles to achieve their dreams of becoming the first black pilots in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Spectators also will experience the sensation of flying the P-51 Mustang that Tuskegee Airmen fighter pilots flew.
Along with the RISE ABOVE exhibit, the CAF Red Tail Squadron also brings its P-51C Mustang "By Request" that will both fly during the show and be part of the Tuskegee exhibit.
Also making its Dayton debut will be Dusty, the crop-dusting airplane that will be featured in the upcoming Disney film Planes. The Dayton air show is one of a few around the country where Dusty will perform, accompanied by a display stuffed with children's activities.

OSU students study wind effects on proposed Wright Flyer monument
Engineering students at The Ohio State University have completed a "capstone project" to analyze aerodynamic forces that would be faced by the 25-story-tall Wright Flyer monument being developed by the Wright Image Group of Dayton. Aerospace engineering seniors Lindsey Crump, Chelsea Curtin, Tim Hendrickson, and Mitch Le completed the project with technical guidance by their faculty advisor Professor Mike Benzakein, NASA Glenn Research Center engineer Tom Benson and Chuck Stevens of Stevens Aircraft engineering. The project is included in their graduation credits. "This project has been such a great learning opportunity for us," said Hedrickson, project team leader. "We really hope our efforts will be of valuable use to Wright Image Group for years to come." The Wright Image Group plans to erect the monument at the Interstate 70-75 interchange to brand the Dayton region and Ohio as the birthplace of aviation and the center of aerospace technology.
