The YIT School's new MUSIC STUDIO brings out the BEST in our students.

Are your students interested in music?

How is music incorporated in your student's lives?

How can music become a mode of therapy and behavior motivation?

Check out the studio!

The Youth In Transition School is proud to announce the addition of a Music Studio, WOW!  We always support the interests of our students and after several conversations regarding the importance of music in their lives, our Behavior Specialist and Vocational Coordinator, Ron Praylow became instrumental (pun intended) in building the studio from concept to REALITY.

Over the span of a few months, Praylow organized the donation of carpet (used as a sound buffer in the booth) - thank you local Bill's Carpet!  He also commissioned the Building and Maintenance Vocational Program in our own school to cut and stain the wood for the booth.  Through his connections, he was able to find someone to construct the booth and studio in a single day!  A huge thank you to all involved in this meaningful endeavor.

Today students can use the studio to write songs, record pieces, download music, build beats, etc.  During club on Friday, the studio is open to anyone but if a student wants to replace lunch with studio time on Wednesdays, they must be on good behavior to do so which has proven the studio to be an asset in motivating great behavior.  Even youths who are residents in our Youth Residential Service Program (YRS) are able to access and use the studio at certain times.

Praylow describes the Music Studio as a wonderful channel for students to release their emotions, creativity and aggression through music and lyrics.  The studio also has the capability to record video and students are able to hear and watch themselves speak, providing a window into how others may observe them.  Aside from being therapeutic, students have the freedom to create original works and channel their energy in a very positive way; all of which is extremely important to the staff and to their families. Just another way  YIT is opening a wonderful new experience to help our students learn and grow through alternative channels!
