It's Fundamental and Foundational!

The Apostle Paul's first missionary journey, launched from the church at Antioch (Acts 13:1-5), focused on the proclamation of the Gospel . . . first and fundamentally. Barnabas and Saul (Paul) first "preached the Good News" (Acts 13:5, 12, 16-43, 49, 52; 14:1, 7, 15, 21, 25) and, upon their return to Antioch, reported on "all that God had done to make it possible for the Gentiles to believe" (Acts 14:27).

It is fundamental that the Gospel must be clearly proclaimed, but follow-up is foundational to this first fundamental step. The church at Antioch was well taught (Acts 13:1-2; 14:28), and it was on the heart of Paul that the new believers and newly planted churches of the first missionary journey be well taught as well. As an extension of the church at Antioch, the second missionary journey was launched (Acts 15:35-36); one could say Theological Education by Extension (TEE) was started out of the church at Antioch. It's fundamental and foundational, establishing believers in a thorough understanding of God's Word and the grace of life in Jesus Christ.

UIM International connects with indigenous people of North America at a fundamental and foundational level. We proclaim the Gospel and we establish believers in the knowledge of the Scriptures, through TEE--Theological Education by Extension.

Take some time to connect with two of our UIM missionaries effectively utilizing the TEE method of teaching God's Word to disciples of Jesus Christ and training leaders for indigenous ministry. This UIM Connection! will connect you to our TEE ministry.

Thank you for your continuing connection to UIM International!

Reaching Out to Needy Inmates

While ministering in Mexico in the 1990s, Eldon and Dorothy Miner noted that the culture of traditional Indians clashed with that of Mexican seminary graduates.  Further, Indian churches could not support seminary-trained pastors to the level expected.  Awareness of this problem prompted the Miners to initiate TEE. TEE, or Theological Extension by Education, courses provided and still do provide a Bible education for local tribal people without their having to leave their homes.

Eldon and Dorothy now live in Florence, Arizona. Some of their ministry is with those who are incarcerated. On Tuesdays they have a Bible study with those from various countries, mostly Mexico, who are in the United States illegally. Thirty to fifty usually attend the study. Many have accepted Christ as their Savior. Many now bring well-worn Bibles to class. It is Eldon's prayer that they will eventually lovingly take the Gospel message back home to their needy areas.

On Thursdays the Miners have a Spanish Bible study at the prison.  Besides Hispanics, Spanish-speaking Mayo, Yaqui, and Tarascan Indians attend. All of these people have had alcohol- and drug-related problems. Please pray that they will look for and find sound, supportive churches when they are released.

The Miners also conduct the study in Mesa, Arizona, for a pastor, his wife, and another man, all from the first Tarascan town where they ministered in Mexico in the 1970s.

If you are interested in reading more about the ministry of the Miners, contact Dave Stiller at the UIM International office dstiller@uim.org or call 623-847-9227 and request a copy of Lives Well Lived: the Ministry of Missionaries Eldon and Dorothy Miner.  There is no charge for the booklet.

Teaching with TEE in Chihuahua, Mexico
Back: Abdiel Cervantes, Queta Alvarado, José Velasco, Arturo Rocha, Raquel Casas, Glenn Urquhart
Front: Martha García,  Daniel Aguirre, Monse Rueda, Maricela Moreno

UIM Missionaries Glenn and Teodora Urquhart, Chihuahua, Mexico, are teaching two classes of the TEE (Theological Extension by Education) courses, one on Tuesday evenings and one on Saturdays. They have ten students who attend regularly, ten who are considered students but study independently, and five who attend when they can.

Originally Glenn thought they would have five to six students, but through the prayers of many people, the LORD has multiplied their ministry. It is a great blessing to see so many desiring to grow in their relationship with the LORD and study HIS Word.  Glenn encourages his students that, first and foremost, they are students of GOD, learning who HE is and not just learning stories from a book.  As Philippians 3:10 says, "that I may know Him...."  First and foremost is to know HIM.

One of the greatest pleasures of teaching the Word of God is listening to the students express how the Lord is revealing Himself through their studies. Glenn asked his students to share how their studies have affected their lives.  Here are some of their comments:

Maricela - "The study of the Word of GOD has increased my knowledge of GOD and enriched my life, what I value most is it has motivated me to look to please My LORD with a sincere heart."

Daniel - "It has been very interesting learning much of the character of GOD, without a doubt this has given me a greater passion for His work. In the smallest details we can appreciate His patience, grace, love, mercy and eternal power, which are permanent until this day and for always.

This course has transformed me in a great way. I am learning so much of the Word of GOD and at the same time I continue learning more of the character of GOD, of how He has love us since always and of how we are dependent in all aspects of Jehovah. It gives my heart great pleasure knowing that GOD loves me and has saved me and that also He is ready to forgive us always, offering Himself as a sacrifice for all that believe in Him."

Queta - "These are wonderful gifts. Gifts that have no value here in this world, but have value for all eternity. Knowing GOD. This is the gift that GOD has given us. To know HIM.

I pray that all of you may know Him and continue knowing Him in all aspects of your lives here in this world and for always."
