Incoming and Ongoing

UIM International is in perpetual motion, it seems.  We simply do not sit around waiting for things to happen. In fact, quite the opposite is reality. We need a steady stream of new missionaries as well as an ongoing process of improving our leadership.

We recently completed another Orientation to UIM Seminar--affectionately known as OTUS--welcoming four couples to UIM.  As OTUS concluded its week, UIM's current leadership team of administrative leaders and board members gathered for the purpose of continuing our effort to fine-tune our leadership character and responsibilities.

I am grateful for the consistent and steady growth of UIM and for the faithfulness of those who serve in leadership roles. It keeps the ministry of UIM fresh and forward-focused in our objective of reaching indigenous people groups of North America--establishing churches and ministries built upon the Scriptures and functioning within their unique cultural orientation settings.

Your connection with UIM Connection! will give you a peek into recent events of incoming and ongoing growth and guidance.

In Christ, Whom we serve,

Orientation of Future UIM Missionaries

As of March 17, we welcome seven new members to our UIM family.

Our UIM International Office staff in Glendale, Arizona hosted the staff and attendees of OTUS (Orientation To UIM Seminar) which was held March 15-18. This OTUS was attended by some experienced missionaries making transfers to UIM. Kevin and Pamela Dunn had previously served in Honduras with Biblical Ministries Worldwide, Phil and Jeanette Heinicke with JAARS, and Bart and Kim Haines with New Tribes Aviation. Joining them was a young woman, Leah Brock, the new bride of Joseph Brock, a UIM adult MK and now appointee who attended OTUS in 2011.

OTUS provides the opportunity for candidates and UIM administrators and staff to become better acquainted through sessions and fellowship together. UIM's Executive Director Dan Fredericks leads sessions having to do with UIM's doctrinal statement and policies and practices. Missionary Development Director Ernie Geeting and other UIM staff present sessions which cover missionary finances and budgets, the calling to full-time missionary service, conflict resolution, UIM's Missionary Services and resources, the many aspects of partner development (support raising), and other necessary information. During the orientation, each couple meets with the Personnel Committee, sharing their testimonies, and then is interviewed.

The Dunns and Haineses are now serving in UIM's Aviation Field and the Heinickes are serving in UIM's Auto Shop, in grounds maintenance, and as hostess at our International Office in Glendale. The Brocks continue to seek God's will as to a target location.

Please join us in thanking God for His provision of these faithful people to do His work.  Pray for the Brocks who are just beginning the partner development process and the others as they continue to raise needed support.

Leadership Development Within UIM
by Warren Cheek, UIM International Representative

Leadership development at every level--in the home, local church, community, or UIM ministry assignment--is a vital ministry focus of the UIM leadership team.

During the recent UIM leadership retreat Dan Fredericks, Executive Director, presented an excellent seminar and led discussion on Applied Wisdom of Head Skills, Hand Skills, and Heart Skills.

Administrators and board members were reminded anew that the Bible is full of instruction on the importance of applied wisdom in the development and use of head skills, hand skills, and heart skills for everyone in the body of Christ.  We discussed biblical examples of leaders who successfully applied wisdom as they developed the head, hand, and heart skills and others who failed miserably because of the lack of applied wisdom in one or more of these skills.

I came away from the leadership retreat greatly encouraged and motivated to continue helping in the process of training leaders within the context of UIM. Future leaders are learning to consistently apply God's wisdom as they develop and use head skills, hand skills, and heart skills for His glory.
