AMVC Management Awarded Renew Rural Iowa Entrepreneur of the Month
AMVC recognized

Officials with Iowa Farm Bureau, Audubon County Farm Bureau and WHO  Radio's  Bob  Quinn,  host of  the  "Big Show"  were  on  hand Monday to award AMVC Management Services, LLC with the Renew Rural Iowa entrepreneur of the month award.

Renew Rural Iowa is designed to help increase the enterprise value of new and existing businesses in Iowa's small towns through a program of business education, mentoring, and the financial resources to help businesses grow. According to Sandy Ehrig, Economic Development Administrator at Iowa Farm Bureau, "By bringing together seasoned business experts and critical resources at each seminar, business owners can tap into an array of services - all at one time. We're putting the necessary tools in place to foster economic growth in Iowa - a key strategy of the Iowa Farm Bureau. The anticipated benefits include a new vitality for this important segment of our state - community growth through new buildings, new people, and more reinvestment within small and mid-sized Iowa communities."

River Ruckus invades Guthrie Center

25,000 music fans visited Guthrie  Center  on  Saturday,  July 28, for the 4th Annual River Ruckus. The Ruckus is an outdoor event located at the Guthrie County Fairgrounds. In addition to standing room in front of the stage, there is a new Grandstands seating area.

The lineup this year included Chad Elliott, Frankie Ballard, Chris Cagle, and Eric Church. In addition to that great lineup, there was a
free show the night before.
Mint and The Rumbles performed for fans.

The River Ruckus brought lots of new faces to the area, with folks camping out in the nearby state parks and campgrounds, packing motels and restaurants and enjoying all that the Guthrie Center area has to offer.  Shuttles were set up in several to help bring people to and from the event from various areas around Guthrie Center and neighboring towns.

More details to come.

Investor Highlight: Farmers State Bank

Farmers State Bank opened its doors for business on March 21, 1921, after receiving its state charter to begin operations, with 35 stockholders and $30,000 in capital investments.

The bank is still in its original location on the west side of Main Street in Yale, Guthrie County, Iowa. Fire destroyed the original structure in 1928, but was rebuilt, and remodeled in 1967 and again in 2009.

Farmers State Bank was the only bank in Guthrie County to reopen after the "1933 Bank Holiday" during the Great Depression, and is therefore the oldest bank in Guthrie County.

Like other banks in Guthrie County, Farmers State Bank has some interesting bank history. On the morning of October 21, 1931 Jay W. Hemphill arrived for work at the bank and was confronted by two robbers who had hidden in the bank overnight. When W. R. Hitchins arrived for work, he and Hemphill were ordered into the vault, and the robbers made off with $4,585.82, only to find their getaway car was gone. Mayor Fred Brechbiel, who operated a garage across the street, noticed the strange car and towed it to his garage and locked it inside. The pair stole a car from bank cashier Guy Heater, but were later caught and stood trial.   (Adapted from Farmers State Bank's website)

Today Farmers State Bank offers all the conveniences of a modern bank, with online access to accounts, online bill pay and check reorder, and much more. They offer a full range of account options and loan products to meet personal, agricultural and commercial needs. You can access account information 24 hours, 7 days a week via the bank's website, which also has financial calculators, so you can figure the best options before applying for financing.
