          WeatherOregon coast storm
Okay the heat has finally arrived and it is HOT. I had some other photos of dealing with the heat, then ran across this one of a great storm we saw in Astoria, Oregon a few years ago. That coolness would feel great!
We're in survival type mode now, closing all windows early in the day, and keeping the house as cool and dim as possible. It's only gonna be a couple of weeks, tops.
So for now, do heavy outdoor work early if possible, and drink a lot of water.  Oh, and dream of the cool ocean waves.

                        Glacier National Park

This is a view of Lake McDonald, on the western side of the park.  Technically, it's not as cold as St. Mary Lake on the eastern end, which has "keep out or you will die of cold and shock" signs, but it's not warm by any stretch of the imagination.

From here, you pass increasingly steep (I think the technical term is "majestic," but if you're the driver you can sub in "nerve-wracking") drop offs along Going-to-the-Sun Road on your way to to the visitor center and trailheads at the pass.

As late as the Fourth of July the ground is rich with blooming early bulbs and snowy puffs of beargrass which dot the steep meadows.  Weather in the Rockies is fast and furious, and you can start a day with a snowy thunderstorm and end it warm enough to put your feet in the lake.

Thanks to MSM of Portland, Oregon, for sending this National Park memory.

                                Taking the L

Chicago reflected in Cloud Gate, or "The Bean". Of course the "L" or Elevated in Chicago isn't less traveled, like the roads from July, but it can help you get to work, to the Institute of Art, the  Tribune Tower, with 136 fragments of buildings embedded in its walls,  a Cubs game in Wrigley Field, or Starbucks in downtown for a good cup of coffee.

We used to have our catalog printed in nearby Wisconsin.  One year we stopped in Chicago and rented a car for the drive to the printers in Pewaukee, just west of Milwaukee. It was my first trip to the Windy City. We took the elevator up Sears Tower (now Willis Tower) and saw all the ornamentation on the other tall buildings as we rode up.  We had a fun dinner in a downtown restaurant staffed by professional opera singers who sang their part of conversation.

We had more great food, enjoyed Milwaukee's finest beer, the walk up Michigan Avenue and over the bridge on the Chicago River near Lake Michigan, danced along with some street musicians then took a boat ride on the Chicago River. We were in a Chicago state of mind (nod to Billy Joel).
