lavender and sage
Recently we noticed that our large bed filled with lavender and sage was in its blue prime. Then we took a day away from home and saw a different summer bloom further north and closer to the coast.
Whether you travel to parks or wilderness,  seeing the variety of plant life is wonderful in the summer.
Inland valley weather in this part of Oregon will have highs in the 80s and 90s this week. We woke up to a low of 51 today that felt great. Hope your nights are cool enough too.

                  Kings Canyon on Horseback

"In the summer of 2008, my 75-year-old sister and I (at 70) did a pack trip with Rainbow Packers into northern Kings Canyon over Bishop Pass into the Leconte Wilderness, and it was the trip of a lifetime......the valley was stunningly like Yosemite but of course 4000' higher and devoid of people and development.

I struggled a bit with the 12,000' altitude going over the pass, but otherwise the trip was wonderful. "

                         Back Roads Part Deux

As you know if you are a regular reader, I have started taking the "road less travelled."  So much more to see, and the driving is definitely more fun.

This past week I took my dad on a backroads adventure through a wonderful part of the Willamette Valley. We saw filbert orchards, vineyards, hop, hay and horseradish fields, and beautiful old farm houses and barns.

We ended up in a town whose main streets had been closed off to traffic so they could hold their annual "drive in," a vintage car show. We hadn't even known about it, so it was a pleasant surprise. There was even a big band adding to the atmosphere by playing music from the 1920's through the 1950's.
