Trees leafed out in June

This time of year, we reap the benefits of shade trees. The old Japanese maple in this shot is just turning from red to copper, later than usual, due to moderate temps. By the time the maple does its final turn to green, we'll have 90+ degree days, and we'll be very happy for the shade.

                           National Park Summer

The Grand Tetons in beautiful Wyoming!

My first trip there was on opening day of the camping season on nearby Jenny Lake. It was just luck that we found a space. Now you can check on opening dates and spaces on the Internet before you travel, and even reserve a space at some campgrounds.

We stopped at a little market and bought some Clover Club potato chips as a special treat.  Clover and her husband started a potato chip business in their Utah home back in 1938, and kept it going the until the early 1980's.

BUT ENOUGH ABOUT US! Please send your National Park photos and short paragraphs so we can travel together all summer!

                     Hops Growing in Oregon

Last week I drove north to visit my family for an early Father's Day celebration. Along the way I drove through acres and acres of hop fields. They look full and green and vibrant this time of year.

Hops grow so quickly that they'll soon be to the top of their wires and spilling on back down in no time. The greatest part is when they're in bloom.  All of the plants are females to avoid the setting of seeds in the hop cones. The fields are incredibly aromatic as the hop cones mature.
