Camping in the Fall Part Two |
I realize I am pushing the envelope weather-wise on continuing to camp, but this time of year is so nice. We drove over the pass near Mt. McLoughlin (pass elevation is 5100', mountain is 9495'), and headed east through the land of high desert and large aspen colonies to Goose Lake, a huge waterfowl area that straddles the California/Oregon border. There were geese, ducks, magpies, quail and sandhill cranes (a new one for me) everywhere. Our last morning there it began to rain. We managed to keep the fire going long enough to make a lukewarm cup of coffee and keep a bit warm as we took down the tent and packed up our camp. Then we headed north into the town of Lakeview for some hot coffee, eggs and the largest plateful of hashbrowns I've ever seen. All state maps $50 Laminated $30 Plain |
