The Bounty of Summer
|
It's hard to believe we are picking tomatoes already, especially after our slow starter of a summer, but here in Southern Oregon, the lower than 100s have been just fine!
We see the effects of our unusual weather in the garden, from different birds and insects, to different growing schedules and unpredictable harvests.
You can get lost in the days of summer, and sometimes it feels like it will just keep going--then the garden brings you back to reality. The days of harvest are here, and will continue for a while. Get out and take some time off if you can, summer won't last forever, and be sure to get your hands on some local tomatoes. |

F. Scott Fitzgerald
After the birth of their first child, the Fitzgeralds moved to Great Neck, Long Island. This is the area he used for the setting of his novel.
Since I grew up on the west coast, I saw movie stars and movie sets all the time (my dad even inspected movie sets for LA county). Hollywood and Beverly Hills did not seem in the least bit glamorous. Rather, I enjoyed reading about New York and The Gatsbys... the newly rich and the old rich. Long Island seemed so exotic; I could picture the big house with a grand lawn, the billboard with the staring eyes, and Gatsby's yellow Rolls Royce.
