Upper Kirby Construction
No Weekend Work on Bissonnet - Roadway Progressing West
Westheimer Reconstruction: Kirby to Shepherd
Final Back of Curb Work Being Installed

Crews continued restoration work behind the curb on Westheimer this week and should continue spot repairs and hardscape installation over the coming week.

All work on overhead utilities on both the private property side as well as within the public right-of-way is now complete and we are anxiously awaiting the scheduling of the overhead pole removal by Center  Point Energy.

Crews are also preparing to begin surface improvements on Persa and Peckham street due to severe pot hole damage adjacent to the Westheimer project site. The contractor's intent was to begin this work early in June, however, they have suffered damage to the asphalt machine and have been delayed somewhat while the machine is repaired. At this point, it will likely be the second week of July before this work begins. Look for updates as this work is scheduled.

Crews also expect to complete the transfer to permanent signals at the Shepherd intersection this week and to finalize the pavement and crosswalk restoration where AT&T has been working on a vault adjustment underground.

Bissonnet Reconstruction: Kirby to Buffalo Speedway
Current Pedestrian Amenities on Bissonnet

Work on Bissonnet last weekend was completed as anticipated. Crews were able to completely demo and pour the northeast quadrant of the intersection between Friday and Monday morning. 580 square yards of pavement was removed, replaced and open to traffic in just three days. Over the weekend, crews were also able to install 41 linear feet of storm sewer in this area. No weekend work is anticipated this weekend due to the July 4th holiday.

Over the past week, crews have also removed the northern lanes of Bissonnet between Kirby and Dincans and installed new 48-inch concrete storm sewer pipe. In the coming week, work will focus on pavement preparation between Kirby and Dincans so that the roadway can be poured. It is expected that it will require two weekends to fully complete the Kirby intersection. At that point the construction zone will shift west toward Buffalo Speedway.
Pedestrian access to transit on Bissonnet

The project will include a complete concrete road reconstruction with improvements to water, sanitary and storm facilities as well as the Upper Kirby Management District's installation of a sorely needed pedestrian-oriented streetscape. As you can see in the photos above, Bissonnet has no pedestrians because pedestrian facilities are either inadequate or absent all together. It is anticipated that the project will take approximately one year to complete.

Look for further updates as this schedule is finalized.

Westheimer Reconstruction: Kirby to Buffalo Speedway

Roadway reconstruction, storm drainage improvements and pedestrian amenities will continue west of Kirby later this year. The project to bid in July and construction should start here around the late August, early September time frame. I

Look for further updates as this schedule is finalized.

Shepherd Reconstruction: Westheimer to US 59

The Upper Kirby District is preparing to begin design on the drainage and pavement improvements project on Shepherd between Westheimer and US 59 over the next several months. This construction will provide storm drainage improvement, new pavement, utility relocation and complete streetscape and pedestrian improvements.

Construction will likely follow Westheimer work in the 2017/2018 time frame.

Levy Park Renovation
North Road Complete, Pavilion Roof Pour Coming Soon

Brick Pathway Installation
Work this week at Levy Park continued with paver and concrete sidewalk installation throughout the project. Rain garden work on the south side of the park continued slowly this week and is expected to continue over the coming week. Site restrictions have required this area to be addressed much slower than originally anticipated. Crews also began forming the pavilion roof structure, a process that will take another week to complete before scheduling the 180 cubic-yard concrete pour. Miscellaneous irrigation installation is also ongoing.
