Bissonnet Work Ramping up This Weekend
Westheimer Reconstruction: Kirby to Shepherd
Final Back of Curb Work Being Installed

Crews continued restoration work on Westheimer this week focusing on asphalt block out areas where Center Point poles have not yet been removed. Crews have also been working to finalize new signals at the Westheimer/Shepherd intersection. The plan is to have temporary poles removed and permanent signals set by the end of the week.

There is an asphalt section at the intersection that covers an AT&T vault. AT&T has had lingering work here to get the vault set appropriately under the intersection. They have now completed their work and Upper Kirby contractors will need to excavate the asphalt to see if AT&T placed the required concrete thickness on top of the vault. If so, crews will pour the remaining concrete and restore the intersection. Traffic impact during this work should be minimal.

Crews are also preparing to begin surface improvements on Persa and Peckham street due to severe pot hole damage adjacent to the Westheimer project site. The contractor's intent was to begin this work early in June, however, they have suffered damage to the asphalt machine and have been delayed somewhat while the machine is repaired. Look for updates as this work is scheduled. At this point, it is anticipated that work will be ready to begin here around the last part of June.

Bissonnet Reconstruction: Kirby to Buffalo Speedway
Current Pedestrian Amenities on Bissonnet

Work at the Bissonnet/Kirby intersection began last weekend and was completed on schedule. Crews mobilized Friday evening after rush-hour and proceeded to demolish the northwest quadrant of the intersection. Over the weekend, they were able to  install 24 linear feet of 48-inch storm sewer pipe and tie it into the existing Kirby box sewer. They then prepped, formed and poured the northwest quadrant of the intersection with 13-inch-thick quick curing concrete. The intersection was reopened by Monday morning.

Crews have been working this week to demolish the northern lanes between Kirby and Wakeforest in preparation of storm sewer installation here. This work will continue over the coming weeks. Crews will also prepare for intersection work this weekend. The plan is to prep and pour the northeast quadrant of the intersection and install 41 linear feet of elliptical storm sewer pipe across the northbound Kirby lanes. This work will occur between Friday evening and Monday morning.
Pedestrian access to transit on Bissonnet

The project will include a complete concrete road reconstruction with improvements to water, sanitary and storm facilities as well as the Upper Kirby Management District's installation of a sorely needed pedestrian-oriented streetscape. As you can see in the photos above, Bissonnet has no pedestrians because pedestrian facilities are either inadequate or absent all together. It is anticipated that the project will take approximately one year to complete.

Look for further updates as this schedule is finalized.

Westheimer Reconstruction: Kirby to Buffalo Speedway

Roadway reconstruction, storm drainage improvements and pedestrian amenities will continue west of Kirby later this year. The project to bid in July and construction should start here around the late August, early September time frame. I

Look for further updates as this schedule is finalized.

Shepherd Reconstruction: Westheimer to US 59

The Upper Kirby District is preparing to begin design on the drainage and pavement improvements project on Shepherd between Westheimer and US 59 over the next several months. This construction will provide storm drainage improvement, new pavement, utility relocation and complete streetscape and pedestrian improvements.

Construction will likely follow Westheimer work in the 2017/2018 time frame.
