Upper Kirby Construction
Westheimer Work Remains Focused on Shepherd Intersection

Westheimer Reconstruction: Kirby to Shepherd
Sidewalk Work Continues

This week crews were able to pour concrete east of Westheimer between Huldy and Shepherd. Next week they will pour one final section at Huldy and business driveways and hope to open this section the following week.

Crews are now working on the subgrade work and pavement preparation on the south side of Westheimer between Kirby and Shepherd. Last week they were able to excavate the section between Persa and Peckham and this activity is expected to extend to Westgate over the coming week.

Crews are also working on brick paver installation and concrete sidewalk behind the curb on the north side of Westheimer. This work will continue next week.

Once work on the Westheimer lanes on the south side of the roadway east of Shepherd have been opened to traffic, crews will shift northbound traffic to the curbside lane of Shepherd and begin excavation of the Center portion of Shepherd north of Westheimer. Once that section is complete, crews will be able to shift southbound traffic to the center of Shepherd and begin storm work in the west side of the intersection. With good weather, the Westheimer pavement east of Shepherd, the Shepherd pavement north of Westheimer and the storm connections could be done in the next two weeks.

Bissonnet Reconstruction: Kirby to Buffalo Speedway

Utility duct banks have been constructed on Bissonnet between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway and are awaiting utility transfers. Roadwork is anticipated to begin in the first quarter of 2016.

Look for further updates as this project is finalized.

Shepherd Reconstruction: Westheimer to US 59

The Upper Kirby District is preparing to begin design on the drainage and pavement improvements project on Shepherd between Westheimer and US 59 over the next several months. This construction will provide storm drainage improvement, new pavement, utility relocation and complete streetscape and pedestrian improvements.

Construction will likely follow Westheimer work in the 2017/2018 time frame.

Levy Park Renovation

Work continued this week along the north side of the park focusing on utility infrastructure associated with the northern park road.
Future Children's Play

The new north access park road will provide additional street parking for the park as well as additional access and cross-flow between Eastside and Wakeforest. Park staff will have the ability to close the road for markets, festivals and other regular and seasonal events.

Work has also now begun grading and prepping future multi-use activity lawn where the ball field used to be as well as the children's play area located among the large live oaks in the center of the park. Work on these areas will continue next week.

You can follow construction progress live 24/7 via the project's online webcam by clicking here

The renovation will entail an improved community garden, expanded dog park facilities, an event lawn and performance pavilion, one-of-a-kind children's play area, an activity lawn with outdoor games, interactive water, food and drink and curated, year-round programming.

Temporary Dog Park Will Remain Open During Construction
There will be no public access to the park during construction, however, the active dog walking community in Levy Park will still have access to the temporary dog run facilities as the permanent improvements are constructed.
