Upper Kirby Construction
Pavement Work Continues on Westheimer's Center Lanes

Westheimer Reconstruction: Kirby to Shepherd
Paving Work East of Shepherd to Hudly

Pavement Placement on the north side of Westheimer between Shepherd and Kirby has now been completed east of Shepherd intersection to Hudly and has shifted to the center section of the roadway.

With recent dry weather conditions, Reytec Construction has moved quickly along the center of Westheimer. They have placed new concrete between Greenbriar and Persa and should have the Shepherd to Persa section poured by the end of the week. Work will then continue west along the center lane with crews hopefully pouring from Greenbriar to Kingston and from Kingston to Dickey in the next week. At this rate, the center of the roadway could be complete in the next two weeks. Once cured, this will allow for three unobstructed lanes along the length of the project.

Back-of-curb improvements have also been ongoing over the past week. Crews have been laying the conduit that will serve new pedestrian lighting and drilling and installing pedestrian light and street light foundations. This work will continue next week moving east to Shepherd.

Once the Center of the roadway is complete, work will begin on the south side of Westheimer at Shepherd and aim to get work to Greenbriar as quickly as possible. At the current pace, crews hope to have the roadway pavement completed this fall.

Plan Houston
Final Chance to Comment on City's Comprehensive Plan

In 2014, Mayor Annise Parker directed the City's Planning and Development Department to develop Plan Houston, Houston's first general plan. Through early 2015, the project team, including three community leadership committees, engaged Houstonians to develop a draft community vision and goals statement. In June 2015, the City released draft policy directives for public input. These directives identify the City's priorities for achieving the community vision.

Input is sought on the 12 Draft Directives

Plan Houston's draft recommendations include

12 policy directives for the City of

Houston. These directives are simple statements that provide consensus on the priorities the City should pursue to help achieve the broader community's goals.

They are:

1. Spend money wisely

2. Grow responsibly

3. Nurture safe and healthy neighborhoods

4. Connect people and places

5. Support a global economy

6. Sustain quality infrastructure

7. Champion learning

8. Foster an affordable city

9. Protect and conserve our resources

10. Communicate clearly and with transparency

11. Build partnerships

12. Celebrate what's uniquely Houston

What Else Will Plan Houston Do?

In addition to establishing a community vision and goals and setting policy directives, Plan Houston will include the following:

  • Performance Indicators that track the community's progress towards achieving the vision and goals.
  • Planning Coordination Tool that displays local plans, helping neighborhoods, developers, and officials leverage planning efforts.

To learn more about these draft policy directives and the strategies needed to implement them, go to Plan Houston. For questions or comments, please email  PlanHouston@houstontx.gov

The City is accepting comments through July 24th

There is one remaining public meeting to be held from 6 to 7:30 PM. This is the final opportunity to learn more about these draft policy directives and the strategies needed to implement them. The meeting will be held:

Tuesday, July 21

Trini Mendenhall Community Center

1414 Wirt

Houston, TX 77055
