Upper Kirby Construction
Pavement Work Continues on Westheimer

Westheimer Reconstruction: Kirby to Shepherd
Paving Work Reaches Shepherd

Pavement Placement on the north side of Westheimer between Shepherd and Kirby has reached the Shepherd intersection. Last week, crews were able to prep and pour the final run between Persa and Shepherd. north side lanes will be reopened as the pavement cures.

Crews also continued with back-of-curb improvements over the past week laying the conduit that will serve new pedestrian lighting between Greenbriar and Shepherd and drilling and installing pedestrian light and street light foundations between Kingston and Peckham. This work will continue next week moving east to Shepherd.

With the roadway placed between Kirby and Shepherd on the north side of the street, crews will now begin preparation to pour a short section of roadway impacted by City of Houston drainage work on Westheimer east of Shepherd to Hudly St. Crews should be able to pour this section in the next week to 10 days at which point they will shift pavement efforts to the middle of the roadway between Kirby and Shepherd. Look for further updates as that schedule is finalized.

Levy Park Construction
Shaping up for July Construction

View From New Wakeforest Frontage
Originally slated to begin in March, the commencement of the Levy Park construction project has been delayed as the City and Upper Kirby staff wo
rked to get the replat for the new park finalized.
During the planning process for the park
renovation, the Upper Kirby District was able to secure several properties adjacent to the park for two major reasons: First, to address the poor accessibility of the park as it was previously only accessible from a dead end on Eastside Street, and second, to expand on the public space and allow for vibrant, active edges.

The new park's eastern edge abuts Wakeforest Street allowing for a second access point off of Richmond and direct access from US 59 for the first time. Agreements with City Center mastermind, the Midway Companies, has allowed for new mixed use office, restaurant and residential land uses adjacent to the park to be developed that will complement the park and provide for an active urban destination.

The reconfiguration of the Park and addition of new land will reinvent the space for a new level of function and access allowing for the development of a world-class greenspace, unfortunately, the reconfiguration has added a level of complexity to the project as the new space must be replatted and passed through the planning commission prior to construction permits being issued.

It looks as though the final pieces of the puzzle are falling into place this month and Burton Construction will be able to begin construction in the next few weeks barring any unforeseen obstacles. Once underway, the park construction should take approximately 12 months to complete and will feature an event lawn and pavilion, an activity lawn, an urban garden center, an upgraded dog park, one-of-a-kind children's play area, a park promenade and curated year-round programming.
