Westheimer Construction - More Rain in the Forecast

Westheimer Reconstruction: Kirby to Shepherd
Pavement placement on Westheimer is almost two weeks behind schedule due to rain delays. The goal has been to have the north side of Westheimer paved from Kirby to Kingston by the first week of May. Crews are just now finishing sub-base preparation for the final pour between Westgate and Kingston. This pour is scheduled to be completed later this week. Last week, crews were able to finish all remaining storm inlets and inlet lead lines on the north side of Westheimer. They will continue pavement placement over the next few weeks working toward Shepherd until they reach Persa. At this point it appears as though City contractors working on Shepherd will still have traffic control obstructing the Shepherd intersection, so once Westheimer work runs into City of Houston traffic control at Shepherd, Upper Kirby crews will have to shift efforts to the south side of Westheimer and come back to the Shepherd intersection at a later date.

Levy Park
The renovation of Levy Park is scheduled to begin shortly. Burton Construction has been selected as the contractor for the park renovation and expects to begin construction in the next few weeks.
Due to the high use of the existing park by dogs and dog owners, the Upper Kirby District has constructed a temporary dog park that will remain open while the permanent facility is under construction.
Once construction begins it is estimated that work will take up to 12 months to complete. Redevelopment of the park will feature curated, year-round programming, native landscaping and botanical experiences, one of a kind children's play, interactive water features, a performance pavilion, an event lawn, a community garden and dog park.

What's Going on in the UK?
| |
2015 continues to be a busy year in the Upper Kirby District. It's an exciting time to be in Houston and the UK is as busy as anywhere in the city.
The Upper Kirby District is in various stages of construction on three major thoroughfare projects and is in design on several more. With Levy Park construction scheduled to break ground any day, this has proven to be the most active construction year in the District's history.
The private side of things is just as busy. Upper Kirby and surrounding areas are booming with development activity. Looking out from US 59, you can see cranes in all directions.
Over the past few months, Upper Kirby has been providing update presentations to Real Estate organizations, Civic Associations and local merchant groups throughout Houston in an effort to keep everyone apprised of the progress in the area.
If you would like to schedule a presentation for your group or organization, contact Travis Younkin, 713.524.8000 or email travis@upperkirby.org.
