City of Waterford Dedicates Reinway Access of Tuolumne River Parkway
May 21, 2016 The City of Waterford held an opening ceremony for the Tuolumne River Parkway Project. This project was a community-wide effort that dates back to the 1990s and had a specific vision to preserve and improve Waterford's riverfront and natural environment.
The multi-year project, which was made possible in part with $2.2 million in grant funding California Consulting secured, sought to enhance the Tuolumne River corridor in Waterford for habitat protection and public recreational use. It creates new recreation infrastructure as well as improved habitat and water quality in the lower Tuolumne River watershed in Stanislaus County, California. This project sought to preserve the natural riparian ecosystem by removing nonnative species and enhancing the habitats of native birds, mammals, and fish through erosion control and stormwater management.
The project sought to create greater recreational opportunities by providing greater vehicular, pedestrian and river access to the community, including a non-motorized boat ramp grant funded and pending construction in 2017, while honoring the amazing and unique natural habitat of the Tuolumne River corridor.
