Take advantage of this free, walk-in blood pressure clinic. A nurse will be available to check your blood pressure and answer your questions. Free community health screenings are provided thanks to generous community support. Find out if you have high blood pressure before complications arise!

Lessons Learned from Famous Cases

Dr. Henry C. Lee, one of the world's foremost forensic scientists, will discuss his work on attempting to solve some of the most notorious crimes in recent history. Dr. Lee has worked with law enforcement agencies from 46 countries in helping to solve more than 8000 cases.

 

His testimony figured prominently in the trials of O. J. Simpson, Jayson Williams, Scott Peterson, and William Kennedy Smith, as well as thousands of other murder cases. Dr. Lee has assisted in the investigations of the famous crimes of our times, such as the murder of Jon Benet Ramsey, the suicide of White House Counsel Vincent Foster, the kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart, the death of Chandra Levy, and the reinvestigation of the Kennedy assassination. 

 

Program is presented by the Friends of the Blackstone Library. It is free and open to the public.

Community Discussion: Should Connecticut's Marijuana Laws be Changed?

Medical use of marijuana is now legal in Connecticut. Other states have decriminalized its use entirely. Some countries have decriminalized the use (but not the sale) of all hard drugs.

 

Aided by pro and con fact sheets on the topic, audience volunteers will debate whether Connecticut's marijuana laws (and the country's drug laws) should be changed.

 

Following an open debate, attendees will vote yea or nay on the topic. Moderator: Marc Schwartz. For further info, call Marc at 203-315-8056.

Menunkatuck Audubon Society: Snakes of Connecticut

Celebrate the year of the snake with Menunkatuck Audubon as they present Snakes of Connecticut with Hank Gruner, herpetologist from the Connecticut Science Center.

 

At 6:30 p.m., there will be a half hour snake identification workshop for kids (with a live snake and some preserved snakes). At 7 p.m., the main program will begin.

 

Connecticut is home to fourteen species of snakes including two that are venomous. These fascinating reptiles present unique conservation challenges in an increasingly developed landscape. This program will introduce Connecticut's snakes and their habitats, address common misconceptions about them, and provide an overview of snake conservation.
