It was SO hot yesterday, but everyone at our Field Day had a great time... these kids know how to keep their cool!

Inspect an Insect with Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center (K thru 3rd Grade)

August 6 @ 2:00 PM   

It's time to investigate beneath the library surface in search of bugs! That's right, bugs! Join the Pequotsepos Nature Center for an exploration of what is below by using microscopes and hand lenses to investigate features that all insects have in common. Learn about different families of insects as we explore the library green and collect live specimens to see what lives outside the library's walls. For those entering K thru 3rd grade.

Tie Dye a 'T' (4th Grade & Up)

August 13 @ 2:00 PM

Head outside as we transform white T's into something colorful and brand new! Different dyes and rubber bands will be provided - the designs are endless. Participants just have to remember to bring their own t-shirt or something white to dye. This activity is meant for those entering 4th grade and up.

Gnome Homes Craft with Katie Stevenson (2nd thru 6th Grade)

August 15 @ 3:00 PM  

It's time to dig into crafts with one of favorite local artists Katie Stevenson and create something using the great outdoors! That's right, participants will use a combination of craft materials and outdoor elements like: leaves, bark and moss to create the perfect home for an underground gnome. Sure to be a garden hit or perfect piece for indoor display. This program is meant for those entering 2nd thru 6th grade.

S.O.S. Science of Soil with the Stamford Museum and Nature Center (1st thru 5th Grade)

August 16 @ 1:30 PM    

It's time to to investigate the world beneath your feet with the Stamford Museum and Nature Center! Throughout the hour participants will explore the living and non-living components of the soil community and the vital importance of this resource. They will learn about many of the physical properties of soil, the animals and plants that call it home and the need for healthy soil for sustainable food sources. Through a soil sample lab, hands-on decomposer study, games, and live animals, students will discover the 'dirt' on soil. This program is meant for those entering 1st thru 5th grade. Registration for this program is required and space is limited, so please call (203) 488 1441 ext. 323 to do so today!

  
  
Digging into Nature with Animal Embassy (for families) 
August 21 @ 4:30 PM  

Animals dig into the surface of the Earth for many reasons. In nature, many of these creatures are contributing to the success of others by creating homes for them, tilling the soil, and in some cases even planting seeds for plants and trees! Some dig to lay their eggs, others to find or hide food, many to escape the extremes of heat and cold. Still, others are permanent residents of the underground and never travel above! Join the Animal Embassy to learn about and see live creatures that spend most of their time digging beneath the earth's surface to live. This program is meant for the entire family. Registration is not required.

 
  

Wiggle Worms provided by the Childrens Museum of West Hartford (Ages 3 to 5) 

August 22 @ 11:00 AM   

The Children's Museum of West Hartford is ready to give some of our youngest learners a chance for hands on discovery as we get down and dirty with worms! That is right, caregivers it is time to learn about all things wormy as we experience: where they live, what they eat and how they help the environment. This program is meant for ages 3 to 5 and caregivers.
