Healthful Holidays and a Happy New Year

Branford Town Band Holiday Show
Wednesday, December 5
7:00 p.m.
The band will perform a wide variety of music including patriotic favorites, Broadway show tunes, light classics, golden oldies, light rock/pop marches and patriotic favorites.
The Branford Town Band has been making music since 1949 and enjoys performing a wide selection of music. The band performs at local functions, as well as retirement and convalescent homes in the Shoreline area. Rehearsals are held every Wednesday (September - June) at Walsh Intermediate School 7:15-9:00 pm. New band members are always welcome and no auditions are necessary. | A Christmas Carol

Presented by the Friends of the Blackstone Library. Actor and writer Greg Bodine will perform a one-act, one-hour, solo stage adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" based on the novel Dickens used for his historic reading tours of the United States. It will offer a unique theatrical experience and is suitable for adults and children over 10 years of age. Program is free.

Ballads, Bossas, & Beyond: An Afternoon of Jazz takes a journey through Tin Pan Alley, stops in Brazil for melodic Bossa Novas, drops in a moody supper club for siren songs, and hangs out after hours in a cool jazz collective performing compositions by Horace Silver, Miles Davis, and Clare Fischer. The Sylvia Mims/Patti Preiss-Harris Jazz Duo will navigate through an assortment of jazz classics.
Admission is free; suggested donation $10.

CT Accordion Association Orchestra

This concert will feature an accordion orchestra consisting of over twenty performers. The group has performed in and out of state, and includes some of the finest musicians in the accordion world. Friends Holiday Concert

The Thimble Islands Saxophone Quartet will perform a selection of Christmas holiday classics including Sleigh Ride, variations on God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman, Hallelujah from The Messiah, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, and a medley of songs from the movie White Christmas. Concluding the concert will be an audience sing-along of Silent Night and Jingle Bells.

Menunkatuck Audubon presents: Declining Dollars, Declining Birds - Cause and Effect Wednesday, December 12 7:30 p.m.
Declining Dollars, Declining Birds: Cause and Effect with Dr. Min Huang on December 12 will focus on the decline of many of our non-harvested birds and possible causes for those declines. The underlying discussion of the talk is the current lack of dedicated funding for non-harvested wildlife and how such a stream of revenue could benefit them. Examples of species that benefit from a dedicated source of money and examples from other states of dedicated revenue streams for non-harvested wildlife will be presented. Dr. Min Huang is Migratory Game Bird Program Leader for the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and an adjunct Research Scientist with the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at the University of Connecticut. He currently heads up the non game bird program for the state as well as the migratory game bird program. Current projects include chimney swift survival rate estimates, purple martin dispersal, shrubland and forest interior bird productivity and distribution.

Holiday Craft

 Head straight for the Blackstone on your half day for a little holiday creating! We will be using a combination of pre-set packets and good old construction, ribbon and glue to create your very own holiday ornaments. Perfect for the tree or to hang around the house. Either way, they are sure to evoke holiday cheer. Registration for this program is not required. The whole family is welcome!

New Plays at the Blackstone
 Are you an actor or a playwright? Join us for the monthly gathering of New Plays at the Blackstone. Our group has two primary goals: to nurture individual theater artists, and to develop new plays by local writers.These monthly meetings give playwrights the opportunity to hear their works read by local actors.
