Featured Client: Location Manager Chris Campbell

Having worked as a Location Manager for many years, Chris Campbell is currently filming the fourth season of the popular ABC Series Revenge.  He was kind enough to stop by for an interview.

TLP: How did you get into location management?

CC: I was a struggling actor driving a limo for work when I got my first job in the industry from my neighbor and location manager Todd Christensen.  I remember he said "You work crazy hours and make no money. Do you want to work crazy hours and make good money?" I worked for Todd on a pilot I don't remember the name of, and then on the feature film Pearl Harbor with the location team Richard Klotz and Michael Burmeister. I was fortunate enough to work with real pros in the beginning so I developed good habits and an attitude that we can do anything given time and a little money.

TLP:  What do you love most about being a location manager?

CC:  I really like the variety of the work we do. Even though I know some of what I will be doing, each day surprises me. I get excited solving problems and figuring out clever ways to handle issues. Location management is a very strong and intellectually limber profession I am proud to be a part of. I've been on Revenge for four years now. We go out on location just enough to keep ourselves busy but not enough to be overwhelmed... yet.

TLP: What do you do when you're not working?

CC:  I spend most of my free time sleeping. Actually I love to travel and see new places as well as spend time with my wife and family, and friends. I enjoy movies, sports (Lakers & Galaxy) and being outside in the city or in nature. I follow politics and am proud of how hard we're fighting to keep film jobs in California. We're finally getting results and it's in large part due to the Teamsters and location managers at the forefront of that fight.

California to Hike Film Tax Credits

It's been a slow summer at the box office, according to a recent Los Angeles Times article, but Hollywood got a genuine blockbuster last week - a $330-million deal that will help subsidize film and TV production in California for the next five years.

In a last-minute compromise reached Wednesday, Gov. Jerry Brown said he would approve legislation that would more than triple the annual tax credits available for movies and TV shows produced in California. The bill is aimed at reversing the loss of location shoots to other states that offer rich incentives to studios and producers. Click here to read more.
