"Understanding cognitive function in patients with mood disorders: moving forward or falling further behind?"

Dear MiNDS students & faculty,

I am pleased to invite you to attend the MiNDS Colloquium TODAY, Thursday March 19th at 3:00 in HSC 4E20. Bring your coffee cup for coffee and cookies before the talk at 2:30.

Glenda M. MacQueen, PhD, MD, FRCPC is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She is also the Vice Dean of the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary.

 

Dr. MacQueen earned her PhD in Psychology from McMaster University and her MD from McMaster University Medical School, where she also completed her residency in psychiatry.

 

Glenda's research focuses on the neurobiology and clinical features of mood disorders. She is a member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute and the Mathison Centre for Mental Health Research and Education. Dr. MacQueen is an associate editor of the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry and the Journal of Psychiatry and Neuroscience. Dr MacQueen was the 2011 recipient of the Douglas Utting award for studies in depression and is the 2014 recipient of the Heinz Lehmann award from the Canadian College of Neuropsychopharmacology.

 
The objectives of the talk today are to consider the limitations of the current standard approaches to studying cognition in patients with mood disorders, to discuss barriers to assessing cognitive function in clinical settings and finally to discuss treatment of cognitive dysfunction in patients with mood disorders.
