Dear Friend of CCSD93,
Roy DeShane Innovation Center Dedicated!
Last night, we held a Dedication for Roy DeShane School's Innovation Center!

I was thrilled to join the Board of Education, Roy DeShane School staff, other CCSD93 administrators, and officials from the Carol Stream Public Library, the Carol Stream Police Department, the Village of Carol Stream, the Illinois State Senate, and SCARCE Eco Education in officially dedicating the new space!
Students will be able to use the Innovation Center, which is a complete redesign of the former Library Learning Center, to share, create, and innovate in ways they never could before. It was built based on best-practices for modern learning spaces in mind. The Innovation Center can now accommodate more classrooms at once for different activities, incorporates more technology and 21st century learning tools, has more comfortable and flexible seating, and features more natural lighting from added windows and a roof skylight.

I thank all those who attended the Dedication last night and every member of the design team, consisting of school and CCSD93 staff members and administrators, along with the project's architects, who put so much time and love into designing this amazing new space for student learning!

Here's a photo of local dignitaries posing for a ribbon cutting photo last night.

Thank You for Your Patience with Buses
back-school-bus.jpg
While we've been off to a terrific start in most aspects of the school year, I'm disappointed and concerned by CCSD93's school bus service. I know many parents have expressed similar frustrations. Before this school year, we switched bus service providers because we felt improvements could be made, and our research indicated the switch would be a positive one for our students. However, simply put, this hasn't been the case. We've experienced far too many delays and issues with the buses to this point.

After numerous meetings and conversations with our school bus company's local branch, I met this week with a national manager to develop a both a short- and long-term plan to ensure improvements are made.
  • We set up a short-term plan to meet further to examine every individual bus route to ensure each is most efficient for our students.
  • For a long-term plan, he also assured me that he had worked to raise the starting hourly rate for drivers, which started at $13 and was already once raised to $15, now to $17 per hour to ensure that staffing levels of high quality drivers were adequate.

If you are interested in a bus driving position, please view this flyer.

I thank our parents for bearing with this situation, and though the Board of Education and CCSD93's staff are doing all we can, I apologize for the issues we've encountered so far.

Attend Free Parent Presentation 9/15

CCSD93 has a partnership with Glenbard High School District 87 for its Glenbard Parent Series (GPS). GPS provides excellent free programming for parents throughout the entire school year, with a variety of topics that focus on raising a teenager in today's day and age. While "Glenbard" is in its name, the content is by no means exclusive for parents of high schoolers. CCSD93 parents are more than welcome to attend GPS events, and I encourage you to do so. Here is the GPS flyer for 2016-17!

On Thursday, September 15, CCSD93 will host Dr. Laura Koehler for a presentation titled Coping Strategies to Regulate Anxiety: An Introduction to Distress Tolerance. It will take place from noon to 2 p.m. at our District Office, 230 Covington Drive in Bloomingdale. For more info, view this flyer. I invite you to attend!
You're Invited to 50 Men Who Cook on 9/24
50 Men Who Cook is a wonderful community event hosted by the Bloomingdale Chamber of Commerce. Prominent men from our local communities put their cooking skills on display to raise money for local schools, including Stratford Middle School and the CCSD93 Early Childhood Center.

I invite you to attend! If you do, you'll be able to participate in raffles and taste the delicious home-cooked entries of our community leaders. District 93 will have dozens of volunteers working the event, including several cooks. So far Stratford Middle School Principal Patrick Dawson and Director of English Language Service David Aleman are signed up to cook for CCSD93! View this flyer for more information. To register, call 630-980-9082.
