CCSD93 strives to maximize the academic, social, and emotional potential of each student by utilizing world-class educational practices in partnership with parents, staff, and community.
Dear Friend of CCSD93,
Thank You for a Successful 2015-16 School Year!
It's hard to believe the 2015-16 school year ended today. This year CCSD93 saw its first Dual Language class in Spanish and English at Roy DeShane School, and we're preparing for three classes during the 2016-17 school year at Roy DeShane and Cloverdale. We had the first year of our Orchestra program, featuring 80 of our 4th graders, and we're excited for it to grow and expand. CCSD93's students took on even more problem-based learning (PBL) than ever before, addressing real-world problems, thinking critically, drawing conclusions, and creating solutions.
I thank our students for their dedication to learning and growing this year. I thank our staff members for their commitment to teaching, guiding, leading, and facilitating student learning in new and innovative ways. I thank our parents for partnering us to provide students with a world-class education. I thank our community for providing CCSD93 with the resources to educate its children. CCSD93 will be working this summer to continue to improve programs and services for 2016-17.
Cloverdale, Elsie Johnson & Heritage Lakes Presented with Ecology Flags This Week
As a cornerstone of the community charged with educating students, CCSD93 has committed in its most recent Strategic Plan to employing environmentally sound practices in its day-to-day operations and in maintenance/construction.

The District's schools have done a tremendous job of taking this commitment to heart by putting into place advanced recycling - and in some cases composting - programs, teaching the importance of the three Rs, and reducing electricity and paper usage.

DuPage County offers three different Environmental Flags that organizations can earn for committing to various green practices.
  • Earth Flags
    - earned for educating students and staff at an assembly or school program, completing one waste reduction activity, and implementing a comprehensive recycling program.

  • Ecology Flags
    - earned for either having or working towards an Earth Flag; educating students; performing energy, water, and waste audits; holding a pollution reduction activity; and having grade-level appropriate environmental service projects.

  • Water Quality Flags - earned for educating students and staff about water conservation through a series of educational trainings and hands-on activities, and by implementing and teaching about green infrastructure.
With guidance from SCARCE Eco Education, every CCSD93 school has earned at least one Earth Flag, and this year six schools were awarded various Environmental Flags!

Cloverdale - Ecology Flag
Early Childhood Center - Earth Flag
Elsie Johnson - Ecology Flag
Heritage Lakes - Ecology Flag
Roy DeShane - Water Quality Flag
Stratford Middle School - Earth Flag

Congratulations to these schools! The flags were presented by members of the DuPage County Board, including Environmental Committee Chairman Tony Michelassi and Water Commissioner Jim Zay. Carol Stream Mayor Frank Saverino attended the Village of Carol Stream school ceremonies, and SCARCE's Kay McKeen spoke about the importance of conservation at each.

I thank the students and staff members at each CCSD93 school for organizing and participating in activities to achieve these flags. Our students are being taught the importance of environmental conservation and are excited to be a part of the solution to the environmental concerns facing us today. Cloverdale, Elsie Johnson, and Heritage Lakes's flags were awarded this week. Here they are!
Heritage Lakes receives its Ecology Flag!

Elementary School LLCs & ICs Open During Summer
antique_bookstore.jpg
Research has shown that the simple act of reading regularly over the summer has been proven to be highly beneficial to scholastic achievement. While classes are out for the summer, CCSD93's elementary school Library Learning Centers (LLCs) and the Elsie Johnson Innovation Center (IC) will be open to students on specific dates
. The Carol Stream and Roy DeShane LLCs will be closed, as they will be converted into ICs, but their students will be invited to visit Western Trails.

All open schools will host games, literacy activities, and allow children entering kindergarten through 5th grade to check out books during the summer. View this webpage for dates and times that LLCs and the IC will be open! A few times are still being finalized, so be sure to check back. We'll also send emails reminding of openings.
